Quentin Leo Cook Wiki Biography

Fatboy Slim was born as Quentin Leo Cook on the 31st July 1963, in Bromley, Kent England and is a Grammy, MTV Video Music and Brit Award-winning DJ, musician, and record producer, best known as one of the pioneers of the big beat genre. Slim is known for such singles as “The Rockafeller Skank”, “Praise You”, “Right Here, Right Now”, “Weapon of Choice”, and “Wonderful Night”.

Have you ever wondered how rich Fatboy Slim is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Slim’s estimated net worth is as high as $30 million, earned through his successful career in the music world, which started in 1979. In addition to his solo work as a DJ, Slim has also collaborated with numerous other artists, which has improved his wealth.

Fatboy Slim grew up in Reigate, Surrey and went to Reigate Grammar School. In 1979, he played drums in a new wave band called Disque Attack, and later took over as lead vocalist. Two years later, Slim earned his BA degree in English, politics, and sociology from the Brighton Polytechnic, and then started working as a DJ in Brighton’s thriving club scene.

In 1985, Slim joined the band called The Housemartins to serve as their new bassist on their upcoming tour of Britain. The group won the Brit Award for Best British Newcomer in 1987, and reached the top 10 on the UK Albums chart with “London 0 Hull 4” and “The People Who Grinned Themselves to Death”. Slim moved back to Brighton, and in 1996 he took the pseudonym Fatboy Slim, and released his debut studio album entitled “Better Living Through Chemistry”, which reached No. 69 on the UK Albums chart. Two years after, Slim recorded his second studio album “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby”, which was a major hit, topping the UK Albums Chart and peaking at No. 34 on the Billboard 200. The release helped Fatboy to increase his net worth significantly, while the singles “Right Here, Right Now”, “The Rockafeller Skank”, “Gangster Tripping”, and “Praise You” became very popular around the world, and also earned him a Brit Award in 1999.

In 2000, Slim released the “Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars” album, on which he collaborated with such artists as Macy Gray, Bill Withers, and Bootsy Collins. The album peaked at the No. 8 on the UK Albums and No. 51 on Billboard 200 charts, while the songs “Talking Bout My Baby”, “Star 69”, “Sunset (Bird of Prey)”, “Ya Mama”, and “Weapon of Choice” (featuring Bootsy Collins) hit the dance floors. For the video ”Weapons of Choice” in which actor Christopher Walken performs a crazy dance, Slim earned a Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video. In July 2002, Slim played in Brighton Beach, Brighton, in front of 250,000 people in the one of the more memorable concerts ever. In 2004, Slim released his fourth studio album entitled “Palookaville”, which earned him a nomination for the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album.

Fatboy continued to perform in the world’s most influential festivals such as Glastonbury, Exit, Ultra Music Festival, Wavefront Music Festival, and Bestival. His latest studio album came out in 2010 under the title “Here Lies Love” in collaboration with David Byrne from Talking Heads. The album is about the former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos and her life and saw its premiere at The Public Theater in 2013. Most recently, he played at Glastonbury 2016.

Regarding his personal life, Fatboy Slim was married to TV personality Zoë Ball from 1999 to 2016 when they separated, and has two children with her. He was previously married to Philippa Watson from 1986-88. Slim currently lives in Hove, East Sussex, and owns 12% of the football club Brighton & Hove Albion, which recently made a return to the English Premier League. Fatboy checked into a rehabilitation center in Bournemouth in March 2009 after problems with alcohol, but left the clinic at the end of the month.

Quentin Leo Cook Quotes

  • They couldn’t do a drugs story on me because I’d already done one on myself.
  • On top of the horror of separating from your wife, you have to go through it in public.
  • Most people don’t get a fair crack of the whip.
  • I’m very superstitious… I never shout at magpies, walk under ladders or put my shoes on the table.
  • I make music for the hips, not the head.
  • I try to make people smile and dance, not think about things or educate them.
  • I think English people were a lot better at breakdancing than they were at making records.
  • [on re-locating to Brazil] I am more popular there that I am in England. It’s an ongoing mutual love affair. I was gobsmacked. I went right to the other side if the world where I didn’t speak the language, and I played my tunes and they went, ‘We like this. We get this. We like you’.
  • (2011, on quitting drinking) I quit drinking two years ago, and that makes the whole DJ thing so much more manageable, and my life. Whereas before, I was always just kind of dragging myself up from some hotel room floor, whereas now I fly around the globe and give good parties, and I’m not focused on scraping up bits of myself off the floor.
  • I’m not a big fan of football records. I thought Three Lions was quite a good anthem and World In Motion was a good record, apart from the John Barnes rap.
