Preity Zinta was born on 31 January 1975, in Shimla, India, and is an actress best known for her appearances in Indian movies such as “Soldier”, “Kya Kehna”, “Koi..Mil Gaya” and many others. What is more, Zinta is the founder of PZNZ Media, a film production company. Preity has also written many articles for BBC News Online, and is also involved in humanitarian work.

So just how rich is Preity Zinta? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that Preity’s net worth is up to $30 million as of mid-2016, gathered during her career in the Indian film industry still spanning less than 20 years. As Zinta is only 41 years-old and she continues her career, her net worth might become even higher.

Zinta’s father was an Indian Army officer, but was killed in a car accident when she was 13, which seriously injured her mother who became bedridden. The accident made Zinta more mature than other kids of her age were. She was educated at the Convent of Jesus and Mary boarding school in Shimla, then at St. Bede’s College in Shimla, graduating with an English honours degree, and subsequently earning a postgraduate degree in criminal psychology. However, after a chance meeting with a film director, she took up modelling,  starting as a model for several commercials such as for Liril and Perk chocolates. Preity Zinta’s net worth started to grow from that time.

Preity’s debut in the movie industry is considered to be “Dil Se…”, directed by Mani Ratnam, which although a minor role, it still got her noticed and acclaimed. Later Preity acted in the movie “Soldier”, directed by Abbas – Mustan, in which Zinta had an opportunity to work with Raakhee and Bobby Deol. Other movies that Zinta acted at the beginning of her career include “Raju Kumarudu”, “Premante Idera” and “Sangharsh”. One of the most praised roles of Zinta gave was in the movie “Kya Kehna” – Preity became even more popular and respected as an actress after this movie, and the film’s success had a huge impact on the growth of Preity’s net worth.

Other movies that Zinta appeared in – now numbering over 40 –  include “Mission Kashmir”, “Chori Chori Chupke Chupke”, “Armaan”, “Kal Ho Naa Ho” among many others. Preity’s first English movie was “The Last Year”, directed by Rituparno Ghosh and working with Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta and others. From that time not only did Preity Zinta’s net worth became higher, but she also became popular all around the world, particularly as Zinta embarked on stage shows and world tours – Craze 2001, Temptation 2004, From India with Love, The Unforgettable Tour are only few shows and tours that Zinta was a part of. This of course added to Preity’s net worth.

During her career Zinta has won over 20 awards, including internationally, such as a Filmfare Award, Planet Bollywood People’s Choice, BBC Film Café Awards, Chicago International Film Festival, and was nominated for a Genie Award. Uniquely for an actress, she was the recipient of  Godfrey’s Mind of Steel Award at the annual Red and White Bravery Awards in 2003, given for her “courageous act” of standing against the Mumbai Underworld.

In her personal life, in February 2016, Zinta married Gene Goodenough, her long-time American partner. She has strongly denied rumours of romantic associations over the preceding years.

Preity Zinta also does some humanitarian work. She is an ambassador of Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Movement. Zinta was a part of blood donation campaigns, AIDS awareness campaign and many more.

Preity Zinta Quotes

  • Love is always real and true love is even more real!
  • On love at first sight “It is superficial to fall in love with someone looking at their face. To me I need to discover the person. I would never look at someone and exclaim – He is the one!”
  • On the changing face of Indian cinema “At one time I wondered if I was doing the right films, today I know I have made the right choices. Indian cinema is changing, not step by step but by leaps. New blood is coming in, mindsets are changing and our exposure to the world is ever- increasing. I am glad these positive changes are happening when I am in the industry and not ten years from now.”
  • Acting can truly take a toll on your nerves. I mean we have to be larger than life. Worse, I’ve seen actors acting off the sets too.
  • You know what’s the worst part about being an actress? It’s the pressure to look gorgeous all the time and to behave perfectly. But I’m not perfect, nobody is.
  • To act, you must know pain. You must know what it means to be in love, what it means to be rejected.
  • I am proud to be part of today’s Bollywood. I love dancing and lip synching to our songs.
  • I want to bring a change and do something new and different in my profession, but in the beginning I’ll have to toe line, I want to be known as a performer not a star.
  • I am single and desperately looking for a good man in my life. I did have major crushes when I was younger but no serious relationship.
  • Whenever I came across something that influenced me, I wanted to be that. So it varied from an astronaut, airhostess, army girl, to truck driver. Once, I wanted to be a nun – my mother wanted me to change schools after that…
  • I lost my father when I was 13-years-old. He was a great man, my father, and very intelligent. I love him very much. I believe it’s very important that parents have a personal connection with their children. It helps kids feel more secure, have a feeling of family, makes them feel loved.
