Piper is of mixed ancestry, since her mother Mary Charlotte is Norwegian, while her father George William Perabo is of German, Irish and English heritage; she has two siblings. She attended Toms River High School North, and matriculated in 1994, then studied at Honors Tutorial College, Ohio University, and graduated with a Bachelor degree in theater in 1998. Even before she graduated, Piper was spotted by a casting director, Denise Fitzgerald, and offered an audition, and although she wasn`t selected for the part, Denise found her an agent, and Piper`s career was about to begin.
Piper moved to New York full time, and after just a couple of months, she got the role of Sara in the comedy film “Whiteboyz” (1999) starring Danny Hoch and Mark Webber, while also featuring rap legends Dr. Dre and Fat Joe. Her next role was as Karen Sympathy in another comedy film “The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle” (2000), and the same year she starred in “Coyote Ugly” as Violet Sanford, alongside Adam Garcia and John Goodman. She received positive reviews for her performance, however, she decided to stay out of blockbuster films, and in the early 2000s appeared in “Lost And Delirious” (2001), “Slap Her, She`s French” (2002), and “Cheaper By The Dozen” (2003) with Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. She then continued with roles in “Perfect Opposites” (2004), “The I Inside” (2004), and “George and the Dragon” in the same year. The following year, Piper had several notable projects, including the sequel “Cheaper by the Dozen 2”, “Imagine Me and You” (2005), horror thriller “The Cave”, with Morris Chestnut and Cole Hauser, and “Perception”, all of which increased her net worth by a large margin.
The second half of the 2000s, Piper started by featuring in Christopher Nolan`s mystery sci-fi “The Prestige” (2006), alongside Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, and a year later she appeared in “Because I Said So”, and in 2008 she starred with Paul Walker in “The Lazarus Project”. By 2010, Piper had also starred in “Carriers” (2009).
In 2010 she was selected for the role of Annie Walker in the TV series “Covert Affairs” (2010-2014), which increased her net worth further, while also appearing in the films “Ashes” (2010), and“Looper” (2012) while the show lasted, also lifting her net worth.
In 2015, Piper appeared in the film “Into the Grizzly Maze”, alongside James Marsden and Thomas Jane, and most recently she appeared in the TV series “Notorious” (2016), and will star in Brian Goodman`s “Black Butterfly” with Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, which is currently in post-production.
Her net worth has also increased thanks to her business career; she has opened a prohibition- themed bar called Employees Only, located in West Village, Manhattan, and restaurant Jack`s Wife Freda.
Thanks to her skills, Piper has won several awards, including Gracie Award in category Outstanding Female Actor in a Breakthrough Role, for her work on TV series “Covert Affairs”, and also earned a Golden Globe nomination in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series- Drama, for the same show.
Regarding her personal life, Piper has been married to film director Stephen Kay since 2014. She is also recognized in the world for supporting the LGBT population.
