Phish Wiki Biography
Phish is an American rock band which is mainly known for their improvisations and jam sessions. Their music covers a wide range of genres, including rock, fusion, bluegrass, folk, blues and progressive rock. Although the group could be heard on radio or music television stations, a large fan base grew through up through word of mouth. The band Phish was established at the University of Vermont, Burlington in 1983.
How much is the net worth of the band Phish? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the overall size of its wealth is as much as $200 million, as of the data presented at the end of 2016. Music is the main source of the band’s net worth.
To begin with, Phish was founded by Trey Anastasio, Jeff Holdsworth and Jon Fishman, all students at the University of Vermont. Shortly afterwards, Mike Gordon joined them, and in 1984 they began to perform outside the university. Shortly afterwards Page McConnell became a keyboardist of Phish (in 1985) as Holdsworth left the band. In early 1989, Phish released their first well known album “Junta”, which achieved platinum status in the USA. In 1990, “Lawn Boy” was released which was also loved by audience and received gold certification. In 1991, Phish toured the USA, but lost their recording contract at the end of the year, when Rough Trade filed for bankruptcy. In 1992, they continued their work with their new label – A Picture of Nectar.
During 1992 Phish toured again, and at least one of their concerts (in Stowe, Vermont) was with guest star Carlos Santana. This is proven by two CD releases in 1992 – one entitled “A Story Phishy” whose recordings originate from Providence and Stowe, and another entitled “Jammin Santana”. It is known that at the time of releases Phish did not have any contracts with any of the record labels.
In early 1993, Phish released their fourth studio album called “Rift”, followed the next year by “Hoist”, which was decoupled from the single “Down With Disease”. At the end of 1996 “Billy Breathes” was released, and the album gathered excellent reviews; all three aforementioned albums were certified gold. It should be noted that the band released several live albums in this decade, among which was “Hampton Comes Alive” (1999) in which two full concerts were contained. The album also achieved gold status.
In 2000, Phish experienced success with the album “Farmhouse” and the associated single “Heavy Things”, yet in October of the same year the musicians separated temporarily to pursue their careers in other projects. In late 2002, Phish began to perform live again, and toured for 18 months, and then published their last studio album “Undermind” (2004), and announced their final separation.
However, in the middle of 2009, the band came back together and played in summer concerts in the USA. In September of that year, their 14th studio album “Joy” finally appeared, followed by an extensive North American tour, and Phish continued touring through the USA in the following years
It should be said that two books about the band were released. The first one “The Phish Book” (1998) is the official biography written by Phish and Richard Gehr, whereas the second is also a biography – “Phish: The Biography” (2009) written by Parke Puterbaugh.
