Phillip Charles “Phil” Harris Wiki Biography

Phillip Charles Harris was born on 19 December 1956, in Bothell, Washington, USA, and was a fishing boat captain and reality television personality, best known for appearing in the documentary television series entitled “Deadliest Catch” from its debut airing and until 2010. All of his efforts helped put his net worth to where it was prior to his passing that year.

How rich was Phil Harris? As of late-2017, sources estimate a net worth that was at $2 million, earned through success in fishing and on television. He was the captain and part owner of the fishing vessel called Cornelia Marie. He was also part of the first seasons of “Deadliest Catch”, and all of these achievements ensured the position of his wealth.

Phil started to learn fishing at the age of eight, and soon after high school, he would begin crab fishing. He worked as a deck hand at first, and gradually moved up through the ranks to become captain of the Cornelia Marie, one of the youngest in the Bering Sea fleet. His success as a fisherman certainly helped increase his net worth. In 2004 he was approached to become a part of the documentary series “Deadliest Catch”; the series is produced by Original Productions for the Discovery Channel and follows the events of fishing vessels in the Bering Sea for crab fishing seasons. The show’s name is derived from the fact that there is a high risk associated with the work. Due to the nature of the show, the camera crew often interacts with crew members of the ship for their own safety as well.

Harris and the Cornelia Marie were shown during the first season of “Deadliest Catch” during the opilio crab season. The Cornelia Marie is the partner of the F/V Maverick and was instrumental in the search efforts for the ship Valley after it sank. From then on Harris became a regular fixture on the show, and his net worth continued to grow. In 2008, he was thrown from his bunk during a storm and he thought he had broken his ribs; the crew convinced him to seek medical attention, and doctors discovered that he had a pulmonary embolism, which prevented him from fishing for almost a year. During this time, his stories were included in a book entitled “Deadliest Catch: Desperate Hours”, and he also set up his own coffee company called the Captain’s Reserve, which is now being handled by his children. The company has been expanding globally since its establishment.

In the sixth season of “Deadliest Catch”, Phil was seen offloading crab when he suffered a massive stroke which led him to be flown to Anchorage for surgery. Despite the danger and surgery, he was able to show signs of quick improvement. However, he passed away from an intracranial haemorrhage a few weeks later, and was cremated. “Deadliest Catch” also showcased featured footage of Phil, and a memorial service was hosted by the Discovery Channel.

For his personal life, it is known that Harris married Mary in 1982 and they had two children, however, the marriage only lasted until 1991. He married a second time but it also ended in divorce. He enjoyed driving, and owned a Harley-Davidson motorcycle as well as a Chevrolet Corvette. His sons also served as deckhands of the Cornelia Marie. Harris was a chain smoker, and this added to his health problems.
