Phillip Charles Harris Wiki Biography
Phillip Charles Harris, born on the 19th of December 1956, and was an American crab fishing vessel captain, who became famous for appearing in the show “Deadliest Catch” on the Discovery Channel Net Worth for being the captain and co-owner of the vessel Cornelia Marie.
So how much was Harris’ net worth? As of mid-2017, based on authoritative sources it amounted to $2 million, acquired from his years as a crab fisher, appearing in the television show “Deadliest Catch”, and owning a coffee company.
Born in Bothell, Washington State, Harris was the son of Phyllis and Grant Harris. He became involved in crab fishing as early as seven years old when he joined his father in his work. After high school, he began crab fishing himself, working as a deckhand on the boat American Eagle.
After years of learning the business, at the age of 21 Harris bought his own boat, the Golden Viking, and ran it himself. He became one of the youngest captains crabbing in the Bering Sea, and despite his age, he became a successful captain and started building his net worth.
In 1990, Harris partnered with his friends Phil and Cornelia Marie to buy a vessel and named it Cornelia Marie. Initially, he and Phil ran the boat but later on Phil decided to sell his shares in the boat leaving him as the captain. The Cornelia became an icon itself in Alaska for being the last actively operating crabbing boat designed by Elmo Horton of Horton Boats, Inc.
In 2005, Harris became part of Discovery Channel’s documentary show “Deadliest Catch”. The series revolves around the dangers of working in fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during the crabbing season. Harris together with his two sons became involved in the documentary show, having a filming crew follow them on their adventures at sea. His years as a captain and his involvement in “Deadliest Catch” also helped increase his wealth.
Unfortunately, in 2008 Harris suffered an accident that led him to stop fishing. During a storm, he was thrown off his bunk that resulted in him coughing up blood. He previously though it was a broken rib but as it turns out he had suffered a pulmonary embolism.
While being away from the sea during his healing process, Harris turned his focus to opening another endeavor, and in 2008 he started Captain’s Reserve coffee company, producing a line of coffee with names inspired by fishing. This business also helped him in his net worth.
In 2009, Harris returned to the sea. Unfortunately in 2010 he suffered a stroke while offloading crab at St. Paul Island in Alaska, was airlifted to Anchorage for treatment, and despite his apparent recovery, in February 2010 he passed away due to intracranial hemorrhage. His passing and memorial was aired in the sixth season of “Deadliest Catch”.
In terms of his personal life, Harris was married firstly to Mary Harris in 1982 with whom he has two children but the two divorced in 1991. Harris remarried toTerresa Louis Harris but the marriage also ended in divorce in 2003.
