Peter Sunde Wiki Biography
Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi was born in 13 September 1978, in Uddevalla, Sweden, of part-Finnish and Norwegian descent. Peter is a politician and entrepreneur, best known for being the co-founder of the BitTorrent search engine, The Pirate Bay. He is the former spokesperson for the search engine, but all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Peter Sunde? As of late-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $500,000, earned through success in his numerous endeavors. He is also part of the Pirate Party of Finland and identifies as a socialist. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Peter originally worked for a German medical company before focusing on The Pirate Bay (TPB). In 2003, he would join Sweden’s The Pirate Bureau (Piratbyran) and would meet people who would help him create TPB. The website was co-founded by Gottfrid Svartholm and Fredrik Neij, and allows visitors to download and contribute links to torrent files which permits peer to peer file sharing through the BitTorrent protocol. The website has sparked controversies around the world on copyright, file sharing, and civil liberty, but despite that, TPB would run well in the next few years with Peter as the project’s spokesperson. However, in 2008, he along with other operators were charged with assisting in copyright infringement; they were sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay $30 million in damages, which Peter contested. Eventually, TPB would change ownership, and he would serve a five month prison sentence. TPB was also shut down for a month but eventually resurfaced. The success of TPB would help his net worth grow.
Other projects Sunde has had include Flattr, which is a micropayments system that allows viewers to make small donations. The project started in 2010 and its aim was to encourage people to share money as well as content. Flattr was one of the donators to Wikileaks, and later on the company would be acquired by Eyeo GmbH. Sunde also planned to make a mass market messenger called Hemlis, which aim was to be private and secure, however, the project was abandoned in 2015. During the same year, he released a video on a project called “Kopimashin” which aimed to replicate 100 copies a second of a single song. The machine has been attributed with damaging the music industry according to RIAA, but Sunde retorted that if it had, then the record industry should be bankrupt by now. All of his other endeavors have helped increase his net worth even further.
Peter also tried his hand unsuccessfully at running for the European Parliament in 2014, with the Pirate Party of Finland. The Pirate Bay also continues to boast having millions of visitors every day.
For his personal life, nothing is even rumoured of any romantic relationships; it is known that Peter is vegan. Aside from Sewdish, he speaks German, English, Norwegian and Finnish.
