Miller has starred alongside Christopher Walken and Matthew Broderick in a comedy film directed by Mike Nichols “Biloxi Blues”, a crime comedy movie with Marlon Brando and Bruno Kirby “The Freshman”, as well as a 1992 biographical film that shows the life of Charlie Chaplin called “Chaplin”, where the main roles are portrayed by Robert Downey Jr, Kevin Kline and Dan Aykroyd.
Even though the latter movie was largely criticized, Downeys’s performance won him a BAFTA Award, while the movie received several nominations for Academy Awards, as well as Golden Globe Awards. Penelope Ann Miller is also known for her appearances in television series, such as “Desperate Housewives” with Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Teri Hatcher, “A Minute with Stan Hooper”, “The Closer” and “CSI:NY”. The majority of Penelope Ann Miller’s net worth comes from her acting career.
Penelope Ann Miller was born in 1964, in Los Angeles, California. Both of her parents were known personalities, as her mother was a journalist and designer, while her father, Mark Miller, was an actor. Miller attended a local school in Los Angeles, but soon moved out to New York City as she intended to study theatre. Miller’s passion for theatrical performances paid off in 1985 when she was cast to perform in the lead role in Neil Simon’s play “Biloxi Blues”. The play has won several Tony Awards, as well as a Theatre World Award. Interestingly enough, Miller also starred in the movie version of the play in 1988. Such a career break guaranteed Miller many upcoming television offers. Miller then went on to briefly appear in a crime drama series “Miami Vice”, as well as other shows, but returned to Broadway instead by starring in a three-act play called “Old Town”, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. 1990s were perhaps the busiest for Miller, as she made several notable appearances among some of the most known actors in the industry.
In 1990, Miller co-starred with Robert De Niro and Robin Williams in “Awakenings”, that same year appeared in “Downtown”, as well as “Kindergarten Cop” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pamela Reed. Some of Penelope Ann Miller’s more recent movie and television ventures include “Saving Lincoln” with Tom Amandes, “Robosapien: Rebooted”, “Mistress” with Alyssa Milano, and “American Crime” with Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton. Miller’s contributions to the television industry have been recognized with nominations for Saturn Award, Golden Globe Award, as well as wins for Chicago Film Critics Award and Hollywood Film Festival award. Penelope Ann Miller Quotes
- [on her romance with Al Pacino while filming of Carlito’s Way (1993)] It’s not a secret and I’m not ashamed of it. Al is a very passionate person, and he brought out a certain womanliness, a sexuality, a passion in me. I think I always knew I had it in me, but he brought out a real fire. [We were worried about] upsetting the atmosphere on the set. We really wanted to keep the relationship discreet for the sake of the movie.
