Pat Croce was born as Pasquale Croce on the 2nd November 1954 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He is an entrepreneur, author, sports team executive and owner, and TV personality, best known as a president of the Philadelphia 76ers from 1996 to 2001. Croce’s career started in 1977.

Pat Croce was born in a mixed marriage between an Italian father and Irish-American mother. He studied at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences in 1977. Soon after, Croce started his career as a physical therapist, and later became a physical conditioning and rehabilitation coach for the NHL team Philadelphia Flyers. Croce served as an administrative director at the Sports Medicine Clinic of Haverford Community Hospital before was hired to help the Philadelphia 76ers centre Shawn Bradley to bulk up. He stayed with Philadelphia for the next ten years as their athletic trainer.

In 1984, Croce established the Sports Physical Therapists and expanded business to a chain of 40 centres in 11 states before sold it in 1993 for $40 million. In 1996, Croce became a president of the Philadelphia 76ers as a part of a group that also owns Philadelphia Flyers. Under his guidance, the 76ers went from the worst team in the league to the NBA finals in 2001 after which he resigned. He is the first ever trainer who rose to the owner position in the history of professional sports team.

After leaving the post at Philadelphia, Croce used his vast knowledge of taekwondo and served as a commentator during the 2004 Summer Olympic Games. He also has a black belt in taekwondo. In 2005, Pat opened a $10 million worth of St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum in Key West, Florida. The museum features authentic pirate artefacts and a year later; he opened Rum Barrel restaurant right next to the museum. In 2010, the museum moved to St. Augustine, Florida.

Pat Croce is also an author and has published numerous books; his first book came out in 1983, entitled “Conditioning for Ice Hockey: Year ‘Round”. His second book came out the following year, entitled “Stretching for Athletics. In 1997 came out the “A Baseball Player’s Guide to Sports Medicine”, and three years later “I Feel Great and You Will Too!”.

He also wrote “110%” (2001), “Victory Journal” (2002), “Lead or Get Off the Pot!!” (2004), and “Do It Now Journal” (2004). Lately, Croce wrote several pirate-related books including “Pirate Soul – A Swashbuckling Journey Through the Golden Age of Pirates” (2006), “My Pop-Pop is a Pirate” (2008), “Blackbeard” (2011), “Pirates of St. Augustine” (2011), and “The Pirate Handbook” (2011), all of which added a lot to his net worth.
