Parminder Nagra Wiki Biography
Born Parminder Kaur Nagra on the 5th October 1975, in Leicester, Leicestershire England, she is an actress, best known to the world as Dr. Neela Rasgotra in the TV drama series “ER”, and as Ellen Nadeer in the TV action-adventure series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, among many other differing appearances.
Have you ever wondered how rich Parminder Nagra is, as of early 2018? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Nagra’s net worth is as high as $1.5 million, an amount earned through her successful career in the world of entertainment, active since the early ‘90s.
Parminder, of Sikh ancestry, she is the oldest child of Sukha and Nashuter Nagra, who emigrated to the UK from India in the ‘60s. She grew up in her hometown with her three younger two brothers and sister. She went to Soar Valley College, where she also played the viola, and took part of in few theatrical productions.
She left school after completing A-levels, and was asked by her school drama teacher to join Haithizi Productions in Leicester, so in 1994 she became a chorus member of the musical “Nimai”, but was eventually promoted to the lead singer when that cast member dropped out after a week of rehearsals.
Encouraged by her early success, Nagra moved to London, honing her stage acting skills by appearing in the pantomime “Sleeping Beauty”, premiered at the Theatre Royal Stratford East. She then signed contracts with the small Indian theatre companies Tamasha, and Tara Arts, among others, and thanks to her success on stage in the mid- ‘90s, she made a few notable appearances in the second half of the decade, in such productions as “Skeleton” in 1997, “Fourteen Songs, Two Weddings & A Funeral” (1998), and “The Square Circle”, among others, which really established her net worth.
She slowly diversed into screen roles too, starting with supporting parts in such productions as the TV series “Casualty” (1996-1998), and the television film “King Girl” in 1998.
She waited until 2002 for her first notable appearance on screen, when she was chosen for the role of Jesminder ‘Jess’ Kaur Bhamra in the cult film “Bend It Like Beckham”, starring next to Keira Knightley and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, which launched Parminder to stardom and increased her wealth to a large degree, since the film grossed more than $76 million with just $5 million budget. The following year she started portraying Dr. Neela Rasgotra in the TV series “ER”, and through 2009 featured in more than 125 episodes of the highly acclaimed series, which also contributed to her net worth. Concurrently Nagra featured in other productions, such as the fantasy film “Ella Enchanted” in 2004, then romantic comedy film “In Your Dreams” and the drama film “Compulsion” both in 2008. She then waited for two years for another notable role, when she was chosen for the cast of the film “Horrid Henry” in 2011, and the following year played Dr. Lucy Banerjee in the TV series “Alcatraz”. In 2013, Parminder was rather busy, as she worked on several productions, including the television film “Reckless”, then the TV series’ “The Blacklist”, and also “Psych”. She subsequently had more success in 201, and 2017, when she started playing Senator Ellen Nadeer in the TV series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”, and Dr. Sarinda Khatri in the TV series “Fortitude”, which considerably increased her wealth by a large margin.
Regarding her personal life, Nagra was in a five years-long relationship with fellow actor Kieran Creggan, and was then married to photographer James Stenson from 2009 until 2013; the couple have a son, born in 2009.
Back in 2004, Parminder carried the Olympic torch through London, while on its way to Athens, Greece, where the games were held.

Parminder Nagra Quotes
- On arranged marriage: When I was 18 my mother gave me a photo of a man and said I’d marry him. I told her then I was never going to have an arranged marriage. No one has ever forced me to do anything against my will. (2009)
- On her first sex scene in Compulsion (2008): I always said I’d never do a nude scene but now I have. I know there will be a huge fuss when “Compulsion” comes out. It’s partly because of the fact I’m Asian. People don’t expect me to do that. I never expected myself to do that. I always said ‘No’ and then, finally, I reached a point where I thought, ‘It’s now or never’. My mum will probably disapprove but I’ll deal with that. I’m old enough now to make decisions like this (2009).
- About her biggest fashion disaster: When I was 13, I was really into Madonna. I’d wear leggings, short skirts, big blouses, big belts, a pearl choker, big earrings, bracelets – I was a mess. I thought I was a mini- Madonna (2007).
- When asked who was the better kisser on ER (1994): “All my cast-mates want to know that! They were both special in their own way [laughs]. John and his stubble gave me a rash. With Shane, it was more gentle and smooth. The funniest moment was directly after kissing Shane, we were eating Chinese food and drinking coffee. Then we shot more kissing scenes; we had mints on hand!” (2007).
- “I love cooking. I couldn’t do any of these L.A. diets because I love my Indian food too much. If there was a Zone diet that included Indian food, maybe I’d do it…I should invent it!” (2007)
- About David Beckham and Victoria Beckham moving to L.A.: “It’s so funny that people think that we would naturally be hanging out. No, not happening! I met them once, and they were lovely. I think it’s kind of inevitable that they would end up here. I was like, “Wow, he’s getting paid quite a lot of money!” (2007).
- When asked if people still ask her about her film Bend It Like Beckham (2002): Yeah, I met somebody at a party and they were like, “Which one of the two girls were you?” I said, “I was the brown one! (2007).
- About wanting children: “Yes. I don’t want to be an old mother. I think five years is about right.” (2007)
- When asked about her marriage plans for the future: “Not yet. My theory right now is that if it ain’t broke…! I’m not going to leave it too long, but not just yet. There are a few things that I still want to do. And it’s so much hassle trying to plan a wedding [laughts]. I just want it to be perfect.” (2007)
- The top question I always get is, “What was it like to kiss Jonathan Rhys Meyers, you lucky cow?” What can I say? He was great to kiss. Good lips. It was embarrassing, actually. The first time we had that kissing scene, I actually forgot my lines, I got so lost in it. “There was silence all around me and I thought ‘Why is everything so quiet?’ I looked around and then said, ‘Oh, it’s me, isn’t it?'” (on kissing Rhys-Meyers in Bend It Like Beckham (2002))
