Pamela Howard Shriver Wiki Biography

Pamela Howard Shriver was born on the 4th July 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland USA, and is a retired tennis player, and now a tennis broadcaster for ESPN. In her eighteen year-long career, she proved herself as both a singles and doubles player, winning over a hundred finals overall. Her career started in 1978 at the US Open, one year before she turned professional.

Have you ever wondered how rich Pam Shriver is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Shriver’s net worth is as high as $10 million, an amount earned largely through her successful sports career.

Pam Shriver was the middle of three daughters of Sam and Margot Shriver – her older sister Marion died of cancer in 1997. She started to play tennis when she was only three years old., and by the time she finished McDonogh High School, had decided to dedicate herself to a tennis career. In her debut at 1978 US Open tournament, she took everyone by surprise when she reached the final, beating Martina Navratilova in semifinals, and though losing the final to Chris Evert, it was obvious that a star was born. Next year she turned professional, and started to enjoy successes both in singles and doubles. Over time, doubles would prove to be her stronger suit, and partnered with Martina Navratilova, she would go on to win 79 titles, including twenty Grand Slams. Among the latter were seven titles at the Australian Open, four French Open, five Wimbledon, and five US Open titles. They even managed to pull the so-called Calendar Grand Slam, winning all four tournaments in a single year. On top of that, they also set the record as undefeated champions in 109 consecutive matches, from 1983 to 1985.

Apart from Navratilova, Pam also partnered with Natasha Zvereva, with whom she won the 1991 US Open, and Zina Garrison with whom she took the Olympic Gold Medal in Seoul in 1988. As for her singles career, she has 21 titles under her belt, though none of them are from Grand Slam tournaments. Her highest placement on the WTA list was number three, in February 1984. Shriver also represented the United States in the Federation Cup, which she and her teammates won twice – in 1986 they triumphed over Czechoslovakia (3-0), while in 1989 they defeated Spain (3-0).

Pam was a serve-and-volleyer, known for her sharp volleys and well-rounded technique at the net. She had a strong forehand, but a rather weak backhand in comparison. After winning 133 titles in her career, she decided to retire in 1997. For her contributions to tennis, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002. She continued to work as a broadcaster, analyzing tennis matches in various capacities – as the lead commentator, analyst, studio analyst, and most frequently as a sideline reporter during the game, known for her expert, yet fun and engaging analysis of the events on court. From 1991 to 1994, she served as president of the WTA Tour Players Association, and she was also the president of the USA Tennis Foundation.

Aside from tennis, she has a minority interest in the Baltimore Orioles baseball team.

Regarding her personal life, Pam was married twice; her first husband, attorney Joe Shapiro, died of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma a year after their 1998 wedding. She was then married to actor George Lazenby(2002-08) with whom she has three children.
