Ozzie Newsome Jr. was born on 16 March 1956, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama USA, and is a retired professional American Football player, best known to play in the National Football League (NFL) as a tight end from 1978 to 1990, for the Cleveland Browns, and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

During his time with the Crimson Tide, he led the team to a 42-6 overall record, an held a Southeastern Conference record of 20.3 average yards per catch for 20 years. He was named the Alabama Player of the Decade in the 1970s, winning two All-SEC player awards and the SEC Lineman of the Year Awards. He was named as “the greatest end in Alabama history” by Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.

Newsome joined the 1978 NFL Draft, and was selected during the first round by the Cleveland Browns. During his rookie year, he was named the teams’ Offensive Player of the Year, the first time in 25 years that a rookie achieved that honor. He got into the Pro Bowl four times and set a franchise record for receiving yards in a game at 191, a record which stood for 29 years. In 1986, he was also given the Ed Block Courage Award for playing despite injuries. Four years later, he won the Byron “Whizzer” White NFL Man of the Year Award for his service to the community. He did not miss a single season during his 13 year NFL career and played 198 consecutive games as a Brown. In 1999, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, having already been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame five years previously.

After retiring, he served as an executive for the Cleveland Browns until 1995, when he moved to become a front office executive with the Baltimore Ravens, then in 2002 he was named as the general manager of the Ravens, becoming the first African-American to hold that position in the NFL. The previous year, he earned his first Super Bowl ring when the Ravens defeated the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXV, and got another ring in 2013 when the Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. He was also given the highest honor by the United States Sports Academy, the Eagle Award, thanks to his significant contributions to the sport internationally. He is also a part of the Cleveland Browns, “Ring of Honor”.

For his personal life, it is known that Ozzie is married to Gloria and they have a son. They reside in Cockeysville, Maryland. He is known for his community work outside of his football career, leading him to receive numerous honors and awards.
