Nick Mason Wiki Biography
Nicholas Berkeley “Nick” Mason was born on 27 January 1944 in the city of Birmingham, England, and is a world-famous drummer and composer, best known by far for his work with the hugely successful English rock band “Pink Floyd”; Nick Mason is the only member of “Pink Floyd” to have stayed with the group throughout its whole existence – featuring in every album that the band has released since its inception and name change in 1965.
So just how rich is Nick Mason? Authoritative sources estimate that the net worth of Nick is over $80 million, the vast majority accumulated during his 50 years as part of “Pink Floyd”.
Nick Mason was brought up mainly in London, and was educated at Frensham Heights School, before studying architecture at the Royal Polytechnic Institution (now the University of Westminster) where he first met his future group-mates – Roger Waters, Bob Klose and Richard Wright. Together, they debuted in the London underground music scene, forming the band “Sigma 6” – which would later go on to become the world-famous “Pink Floyd”, renamed in 1965 after a series of performances under various names. Over the course of the next year, the ascendant “Pink Floyd” would draw the attention of Peter Jenner, who ended up taking the position of their manager. By late 1966, the group was already drawing the interest of larger recording labels.
As “Pink Floyd” marched on to worldwide recognition, Nick Mason would take part in every album the band released. Mainly contributing his considerable talents as a drummer, Mason only had a few spoken or sung parts in any of the “Pink Floyd” songs – most notably “Signs of Life” and “Learning to Fly” from the album “Corporal Clegg”. With “Pink Floyd” becoming one of the world’s most prominent rock bands – all but one of their albums reaching the top spot on American charts – Nick Mason’s already soaring net worth could only continue to grow. After Roger Waters left “Pink Floyd” in 1986, he and Mason engaged in a series of legal conflicts over the rights to the group name – however, after seven years, they were ultimately amicably resolved, and the two have since been seen performing together again, appearing with the rest of the old band in London since 2005.
Mason has received worldwide acclaim as the member of one of the world’s most successful and influential groups, and as the composer behind many of the band’s signature songs. Nick Mason’s fame is well reflected in his considerable net worth, and Mason can be safely said to be among the world’s most successful and influential drummers. Pink Floyd have sold over 250 million albums worldwide, including 75 million units sold in the US, believed to be in the top three in sales of all music artists.
Nick Mason has also released a solo album, and featured in collaborations with other performers such as Rick Fenn and Michael Mantler.
In his personal life, Nick Mason lives in Hampstead, London with his second wife Nettie(m. 1988); they have two sons. Nick also has two daughters from his first marriage, to Lindy Rutter(1968-88). Mason is a known enthusiast of classic cars, often spending quite heavily on acquiring particular models, and his collection includes several cars by Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari and Porsche.

Nick Mason Quotes
- The recording of ‘The Wall’ was very tense, mainly because Roger was starting to go a bit mad. This was the record when he fell out badly with Rick. Rick has a natural style, a very specific piano style, but he doesn’t come up with pieces easily, or to order. Which is a problem when other people are worrying about who did what and who should get the credit. There was even talk of Roger and Dave elbowing me out and carrying on as a duo. There were points during The Wall when Roger and Dave were really carrying the thing. Rick was useless, and I wasn’t very much help to anyone either.
