In 1998 he led the Panthers with 68 receptions and six touchdowns, and was successful in the following season as well, with 96 receptions and eight touchdowns, played in 15 games and started all of them. As a result of his notable performance on the field, he was selected for his first Pro Bowl. Muhsin suffered an injury in 2001 and was unable to play for the most of the season, so during the 2001-02 season, he was a commentator for NFL Europe.

Having fully recovered, he led the Carolina Panthers into Super Bowl XXXVIII during 2003 NFL season, watched by 114.4 million people, as the authoritative sources estimate. Although his team lost to the New England Patriots, Muhammad scored the longest touchdown reception of 85 yards in the history of the Super Bowl. However, Muhammad was released from the team in 2005, and was offered a contract with the Chicago Bears shortly after. His statistics improved in 2006, nonetheless, he left the team only to return to the Carolina Panthers, playing for them in 2008 recording 65 receptions and five touchdowns, then after a moderately successful 2009 season – 53 receptions for one touchdown – he retired, having played 212 games in his career, for almost 12,000 receiving yards and 65 touchdowns.
