Morten Harket Wiki Biography
Morten Harket was born on the 14th September 1959, in Kongsberg, Norway, and is a musician, singer and songwriter who is most famous for being the lead vocalist of new wave/pop rock band A-ha.
Have you ever wondered how much wealth this Norwegian musician has accumulated so far? How rich Morten Harket is? According to sources, it is estimated that the total of Morten Harket’s net worth, as of mid-2017, revolves around the sum of $50 million, acquired through his music career which has been active since 1982.
Morten was one of five children of an economist teacher Henny, and hospital physician Reidar Harket. He grew up in Asker, where he learned to play piano at the early age of four, and under the musical influences of David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Queen and James Brown among several others. Despite wanting to be a priest in his teenage years, and enrolling in theological studies, he abandoned that path and turned towards music. He began his music career as a member of rock band Bridges but later joined the blues group Soldier Blue.
In 1982, alongside Paal Waaktaar and Magne Furuholmen, Morten founded the band A-ha. In 1984 the trio relocated to London, UK, where they released their debut single “Lesson One” – the song “suffered” several adjustments, re-writing and re-recordings before it was released as “Take On Me”, and became an international hit single, peaking at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, and No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The group’s debut studio album – entitled “Hunting High and Low” – hit the charts just a year later in 1985, scoring a rather solid commercial success, selling over 10 million copies and peaking at No. 15 on the US Billboard 200 chart. This venture provided the basis for Morten Harket’s net worth.
Prior to 1994 when they split, Morten and his bandmates released four more studio albums, of which “Scoundrel Days” (1986) and “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” were certified three times platinum. In 1998 A-ha gathered again and made a comeback, releasing “Minor Earth Major Sky” studio album in 2000, which was followed by “Lifelines” (2002) and “Analogue” (2005) before they split again. Since 2015, after a second reunion, Morten and A-ha released their most recent studio album entitled “Cast in Steel”, which managed to repeat the commercial success of its predecessors. So far, Harket and his A-ha band has released a total of 10 studio albums which have sold over 60 million copies, as well as numerous singles of which 20 million copies have sold. It is certain that all these accomplishments helped Morten Harket to add a significant sum to the total of his wealth.
Apart from A-ha and all those mentioned above, Harket has also made some efforts towards his solo career, in which he so far has released six albums, including the most commercially successful “Out of My Hands” (2012) and “Brother” (2014). In addition, Morten has released over two dozen singles such as “A Kind of Christmas Card” and “Scared of Heights” which peaked at No. 1 on international charts. It is certain that all these ventures have dramatically boosted the size of Morten Harket’s net worth.
For his great contribution to Norwegian music, in 2012 Morten Harket was named a Knight of the 1st Class of Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav.
When it comes to his personal life, Harket dated actress Bunty Bailey back in the mid-1980s, while between 1989 and 1998 he was married to another actress, Camilla Malmquist with whom he has two sons and a daughter. Besides these, Harket has two more daughters – one from a relationship with Anne Mette Undlien, and the other from his relationship with Inez Andersson with whom he has been living since 2005.
