Mike Starr Wiki Biography
Mike Starr was born on 4 April 1966, in Honolulu, Hawaii, with twin sister, Melinda, and was widely known as the original bassist of the band Alice N’ Chains, remaining in that position from the establishment of the band in 1987 until 1993. He passed way in 2011.
So just how rich was Mike Starr? Authoritative sources report that Starr’s net worth was as high as $1.5 million, accumulated from his career in the music industry which began in the early ‘80s.
Prior to his career as the bassist of Alice N’ Chains, Mike was in a heavy metal band named Sato; the band’s biggest accomplishment was the song ‘’Leather Warriors’’ which appeared on a compilation album consisting of various metal songs, entitled ‘’Northwest Metalfest’’ and published in 1984. Later on, Starr joined another metal band for a short period of time, however, his path would later on cross with his colleagues from the previous band. Having formed Alice N’ Chains, Mike gained popularity on the Seattle music scene, and the band’s achievements were only expanding. Alice N’ Chains went on to sign a contract with Columbia Records and made their big breakthrough in the grunge rock scene during the 1990s. However, Starr was in the bend only during the ‘’Facelift’’ and ‘’Dirt’’ albums and ‘’Sap’’ EP, all of which received positive reviews. “Facelift”, the debut album had big hits such as ‘’We Die Young’’ and ‘’Man in the Box’’ and was critically acclaimed, with the music critic Steve Huey calling it “one of the most important records in establishing an audience for grunge and alternative rock among hard rock and heavy metal listeners”.
The following album, published in 1992 and titled ‘’Dirt’’ was, however, the most successful album of the band, and with hit singles such as ‘’Would’’, ‘’Them Bones’’ and ‘’Down in a Hole’’, the album was described as ‘’a masterpiece’’ and ‘’the greatest record ever made’’ by the critics. However, Mike left the group during the tour supporting ‘’Dirt’’, to play bass for Sun Red Sun. In the music industry, Starr was last active in 2011.
In his personal life, Starr was in a relationship with Barbara Dearaujo. He was arrested for drug possession in 1994. In the forthcoming period, Alice in Chains published ‘’Black Gives Way to blue’’ and dedicated several lines to Starr alongside Layne Staley who died in 2002. Mike went on to appear in ‘’Celebrity rehab with Dr. Drew’’ a VH1 reality television show in 2010, following his decision to get treated for methadone addiction. Mike then appeared in a documented spinoff of the previously mentioned show, called ‘’Sober House’’. He made a testimony about his new lifestyle alongside other celebrities who were dealing with the same problem. However, in 2011, he was again arrested for drug possession, and died on 8 March of the same year in Salt Lake City, Utah, apparently as a result of a prescription drug overdose. Over 400 people, including his former bandmates attended the private memorial held at Experience Music Project in Seattle on 20 March.

Mike Starr Quotes
- I get a lot of calls for New York-oriented things, mob parts, cop roles. I think they stereotype me by size; that’s a bit of a pitfall. Some people bring me in for the big gentle guy or these killers. It’s hard to figure out what they think of me.
