Michael Helton was born in 1953 in Bristol, Virginia USA, and is the third and current president of NASCAR, the highest level and most popular motor sport competition in the USA, having taken over the office from Bill France at the end of 2000. In the beginning of 1999, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of NASCAR. Previously, Helton was, among other positions, manager of the Talladega Superspeedway.

The three major championships organized by NASCAR are the Sprint Cup Series, the Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series. Since 2015, Helton contributes to the race coverage from Talladega alongside Kyle Petty, Dale Jarret and Krista Voda.
