Little is known about Mike’s growing-up and educational years. After high school, Mike started playing drums and soon became a part of the rock band The Spawning Grunions, which was similar to The Police, but was far less successful.

After leaving the group, Mike became infatuated with film and soon became host and producer of “That Damn Cable Show” (1990-1993), aired on Halifax Cable 10. In the mid- and late- ‘90s he directed three short films – “The Cart Boy” (1995), “Liquor Store” (1996), and “One Last Shot” (1998), before creating the full length feature film “Trailer Park Boys” in 1999, which gained him national stardom. He then made the TV series “Trailer Park Boys”, which lasted from 2001 until 2007, and in between directed two films “The Trailer Park Boys Christmas Special” (2004), “Trailer Park Boys: The Movie” (2006), while after the series ended, Mike created two more films “Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day” in 2009, and “Trailer Park Boys: Don’t Legalize It” (2014), the success of all of these projects significantly increased his net worth.

Apart from the “Trail Park Boys” franchise, Mike has had success with several other creations, including being the director of the comedy show “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” (2004), while in 2012 he directed the comedy “Moving Day”.
