Michael Henry McBrain was born on the 5th June 1954 in Hackney, London, England, and is known as the drummer of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Nicko has been active in the entertainment industry since 1966. However, he has joined Iron Maiden in 1983, presenting their 4th studio album entitled “Piece of Mind”.

Recording “Putting It Straight” (1977) McBrain made his studio debut, which was characterized by experimental rhythms and black influences. “Making Magic” (1978) was their second and last album, as in the course of an America tour, he left the band and joined the French formation Trust in about 1981.
At the same time, he met the lead producer of Iron Maiden during their tours in France, England and Germany, and at the end of 1982, he switched to Iron Maiden when Clive Burr could not play due to drug and alcohol problems. The first Iron Maiden album with Nicko McBrain was “Piece of Mind” (1983). Up to date, Nicko has recorded twelve studio albums, six live albums, fourteen videos and several CDs with the band, which has become one of the most successful in the history of heavy metal. The band has sold more than 90 million albums worldwide, and has been crowned with several certificates of gold and platinum. In 2002, the band received the Ivor Novello Award in recognition of international success, as one of the best composing partnerships in England. During the American tour of 2005, Iron Maiden was inducted into the Walk of Rock Fame, and in 2011 the band won a Grammy Award in the category of Best Metal Performance with the song “El Dorado”.
