Scott was raised by her grandmother, and attended the University of Southern California majoring in music. She was only a small child when she started with acting, singing, tap dancing, ballet and jazz within Ethel Meglin’s group The Meglin Kiddies, and later at the Hollywood Children Theater and the Three Arts Studio. Melody scored her first movie role as a child actress, playing the young Tippi Hedren in 1964 movie “Marnie” directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and continued to appear on screen through the 60s both in guest and regular roles. In 1970 she played Abigail with Clint Eastwood in “The Beguiled” directed by Don Siegel, who cast her again in “Dirty Harry”, again with Eastwood. She played bit parts with the legendary Kirk Douglas in “Posse” and Brian De Palma’s “The Fury” and with John Wayne in his final 1976 movie “The Shootist”, also directed by Siegel.
