Melissa Suzanne George Wiki Biography

Melissa Suzanne George, born on the 6th of August, 1976, is an Australian actress who became famous for her roles in the television series “Alias” and “In Treatment”, and in the movies “The Amityville Horror” and “Turistas”.

So how much is Melissa George’s net worth? As of mid-2017, based on authoritative sources it is reported to be $5 million, acquired from her years working as an actress which began in the early ‘90s.

Born in Perth, Western Australia, George came from a family of four children and is the daughter of Pam, a nurse, and Glenn, a construction worker. Her early years didn’t involve acting but more of dance – at seven she was already learning modern dance, ballet, tap and jazz, and her passion for dancing later on led her to the world of artistic roller skating. She competed in the sport and even won the bronze medal in the National Championship in 1989 and 1990, and a silver medal at the Junior World Championship the following year.

George attended Warwick Senior High School but asdidn’t matriculate she decided to pursue a career in modelling and acting. In 1992, after years of modelling she won the title of Western Australia’s Teenage Model of the Year. While modelling, a casting agent saw her and asked her to audition for the soap opera “Home and Away”, and she got the job. Her early years as a model and actress certainly established her career and also her net worth.

After getting the role in “Home and Away” in 1993 George moved to Sydney to focus on the series. She stayed in the show for three years until deciding that she wanted to try other roles.

In 1996, George moved to Los Angeles in the United States to look for bigger career opportunities. Fortunately in 1998 she was cast in the film “Dark City” and in 1999 in “The Limey”. In the early 2000’s she was also cast in the films “Sugar & Spice” and “Mulholland Drive”.

Eventually, George tried television and was able to appear in small roles in series including “Charmed”, “Thieves” and “Friends”, but her breakthrough role came in 2003 when she joined the cast of “Alias” – her role as the villain Lauren Reed became a hit among the fans of the show.

After leaving “Alias” in 2004, George hit it big in the movies when she starred along with Ryan Reynolds in “The Amityville Horror”, followed by “Derailed” with Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston, and “Turista” in 2006, all boosting her net worth.

In 2008, George returned to television and starred in “In Treatment”. She also appeared in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Lie to Me”, then appeared in the films “Triangle” and “A Lonely Place to Die’.

Today, George is still active as an actress. Some of her most recent appearances include “The Slap” and the short-lived “Heartbeat”. Her successful acting career has significantly increased her wealth throughout the years.

In terms of her personal life, George was married to Claudio Dabed, a film director and furniture designer. They met in 1998 and married two years later, but they divorce in 2011. For a while George also dated Russell Simmons but it didn’t go further. In 2011, she was seen dating Jean David Blanc, founder of AlloCine. Their relationship led them to having two children, Raphael and Solal, however, the pair split-up in 2016.

Melissa Suzanne George Quotes

  • [On watching the heart operation of a 72-year-old man at a hospital in Paris in the lead up to her new role on NBC medical drama, Heartbeat] Usually you’re up in the observation deck but this time the doctor said ‘scrub in and come and assist me.’ And so I stood on my feet, next to the surgeon, for almost eight hours and the patient was prepped and when they pulled out that saw, I looked at him and said: ‘you’re not going to cut him open are you?’ and he just said, ‘well how else am I going to get to the heart?’ And it was, you know, spectacular – it made me want to cry. I waited until they closed him up, then had to rush home and shower because I was covered in bone dust and then I had to go from there to the Christian Dior fashion show. I sat there and looked at everyone in the front row and I could see their hearts beating through their shirts. Hours before I had a heart in my hand with this doctor and I thought ‘I know what every single one of you looks like on the inside’. If teenagers could watch open-heart surgery and see the beauty of a heart … to know, if you look after that heart, eating well and exercising, every teenager, every person should see that so they know (hearts) are the most beautiful part of your anatomy … it’s pretty amazing.
  • [on her split from previous husband, Chilean director Claudio Dabed] I was the one who went out to work, I was the one who did every single thing in the relationship.
  • I come home and pay my taxes and work – I’m very much a proud Australian. When all this came out, my father called me and said, “That’s my girl”. He’s an amazing man – he raised three very strong girls. That’s what I’m defined by – not a payroll I was on in 1993. [Home and Away (1988)] was a difficult time for me. I was very young, I was taken away from my family, barely 16. I was working 20 hours a day, getting paid very little. It was hard. Since then, I’ve bought my own properties, become an independent woman. And I’ve made Australian productions every year.
  • [on her getting back to shape pretty quick after giving birth] This is a good message for women: If you’ve had a baby, really take time out [and breastfeed]. Not only does it shrink your uterus back into shape very fast, it also keeps a layer of fat around your midriff, which you need to feed. You do not diet when you’re breastfeeding. And don’t eat for two. That’s what a doctor in Paris told me: ‘In France, we eat for one, not two.’
  • I don’t need credibility from my country any more, I just need them all to be quiet. If they have nothing intelligent to say, please don’t speak to me any more. I’d rather be having a croissant and an espresso in Paris or walking my French bulldog in New York City. I’ve never spoken out about it because I have to be the loyal good Aussie, who goes away and comes home. But I’m a really hard-working woman and people have to respect me for what I’ve done … my next call will be to Home And Away to ask them to pay me because nobody does more promotion for that f***ing show than me.
  • No matter what the character is, I just say to myself “If I, Melissa George, was in that situation, how would I react?” and once you do that you can just go for it, and hopefully the performance comes through.
  • [on her film Sugar & Spice (2001)] Huge party, from the day we started until we wrapped in Minneapolis. We’d all go to coffee in the morning and we became best friends. We were so excited to be in an all-girl film. It was one big shopping spree. They put us in this hotel across from a shopping mall, and we were often late for work!
  • The part I enjoy about acting is just having that imagination, taking your mind to a place that you wouldn’t normally necessarily go to.
  • The great thing about film is you start and finish. It’s a journey that lasts so long, TV lasts a long time.
