Matthew George Millen Wiki Biography
Matthew George Millen was born on 12 March 1958, in Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania USA, and is a retired professional American Football player, best known to have played in the National Football League (NFL) as a linebacker for teams such as the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, and Washington Redskins for 12 seasons. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Matt Millen? As of early-2017, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $10 million, mostly earned through a successful career in professional football. He has also worked as a football commentator, becoming a part of several television and radio networks. As he continues his endeavors, it is expected that his wealth will continue to increase.
Matt attended Whitehall High School and during his time there, became a well-known football player. After matriculating, he was recruited by Pennsylvania State University, where he would play for the Nittany Lions, and become an All-American defensive tackle.
In 1980, Millen joined the NFL Draft and was selected by the Oakland Raiders during the second round. He played a total of 12 years in the NFL, playing first for the Raiders, before the 49ers and Redskins. He won a Super Bowl with each of these teams, including two with Oakland. However during his win with the Redskins, he was de-activated for Super Bowl XXVI. He was selected to play for one Pro Bowl during his career. After retirement, he started working for CBS TV as a color commentator. He also worked for Fox and provided game analysis in the radio show “Monday Night Football”. At Fox, Matt filled in for John Madden. Later in his career, he served as a studio analyst for NBC and also became the lead analyst for NFL Network’s “Thursday Night Football”. He also covered college football as part of ESPN.
Aside from his commentary work, he left broadcasting in 2001 to become the CEO of the Detroit Lions NFL team. He was assigned the position without any prior experience, but was the general manager and CEO of the team for a full seven seasons, and would finish with a record of 31-81, earning the team one of the worst percentages ever compiled in a seven year period. During the start of his tenure, the team went 0-24 on the road before finally getting a win in 2004. A lot of executives believed that he made many poor draft decisions, although as a general manager he was the second highest paid in the NFL, which increased his net worth considerably. Despite protests, he was given a contract extension in 2005, but eventually left the position in 2008 when he was fired.
For his personal life, Matt Millen is married to Patricia. Matt has had his share of controversies throughout his career. During a postgame interview, he commented that wide receiver Johnnie Morton was a faggot though he later apologized for the remark. During the 2010 NFL Draft, he referred to fellow ESPN commentator Ron Jaworski as a “Polack”, though he also apologized for that remark. In another incident, Matt punched Patrick Sullivan in the face after an on-field dispute between the Raiders and the Patriots.
