Mary Murphy Wiki Biography

Mary Ann Murphy was born on the 9th May 1958, in Lancaster, Ohio USA, of part-Irish ancestry. She is a champion ballroom dancer, who is probably best recognized for being the judge and choreographer in the reality TV competition show “So You Think You Can Dance”, which is aired on the Fox channel. She is also known as a retired professional dancer.

So, have you ever wondered how rich Mary Murphy is, as of late 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that the total size of Mary’s net worth is over $10 million, accumulated through her successful involvement in the entertainment industry.

Mary Murphy spent her childhood with three brothers in her hometown, where she was raised by her father, who worked as a teacher, and her mother, who was a housewife. She went to Northwest High School in Canal Fulton, Ohio. Upon matriculation, she enrolled at Ohio University, graduating with a degree in Physical Education.

Right after graduation, Mary moved to Washington, D.C., where she started attending training classes for future ballroom dance instructors, after which she began working as an instructor, and appeared at the US Ballroom Championships in New York City, New York. Under the influence of that relative success, she decided to relocate to California in order to pursue further her career as a professional dancer. Subsequently, she met Manfred Stiglitz, with whom she started competing, and they won both the 1990 and 1991 Austrian National Championships, which marked the beginning of an increase of her net worth.

In 1990, Mary opened the Champion Ballroom Academy in San Diego; however, as she couldn’t stay focused on both at the same time, she decided to continue with competitions, winning a number of titles, including at the International Grand Ball, the Saint Louis Star Ball, and the Southwest Regional Dance Tournament. Her next major success came in 1996, when with Bill Milner she firstly reached the US Open Standard Final, and later with Jim Desmond won the US Open American Nine Dance, adding a considerable amount to her net worth. After this accomplishment, Mary decided to retire from competing, and began working as an instructor at her academy. Moreover, she is an organizer of the Hollywood Dancesport Championships in Los Angeles, California, and The Holiday Dance Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada.

To speak further about her career, Mary also became known for being the judge and choreographer in the reality Fox competition show “So You Think You Can Dance” since 2005. Additionally, she has been a guest in several international versions of the show, increasing her net worth by a large margin. She is also one of the judges at the US National Ballroom Championships.

Beside that, Mary has appeared in several film titles too – “Something To Talk About” (1995), as Julia Roberts’ dance double, “Dance With Me” (1998), starring along with Vanessa L. Williams, and “Degrassi Takes Manhattan” in 2010. All of these appearances also increased her wealth.

Speaking about her personal life, Mary Murphy has been married three times and one of her husbands was Phillip Gott; the names of the other two men are unknown in the media, although her first husband allegedly abused her, and her second husband with whom she remained friends later died from cancer.
