Mary Jane Blige Wiki Biography
Mary Jane Blige is an American actress, singer, rapper as well as a record producer, born on 11 January 1971, in The Bronx, New York City to a nursing mother and jazz musician father, although the latter suffered from post-traumatic stress and left the family. Mary is known especially as the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, mentioned as one of the greatest female singers by Roling Stone magazine, and in the top 100 female artists by VH1.
How rich is Mary J. Blige? According to authoritative sources, Mary’s net worth is estimated to be over $30 million; a nine-time Grammy Award winner, Mary J. Blige has accumulated most of her net worth from her profitable career as a singer and rapper.
Mary J. Blige didn’t matriculate, but took-off to New York in pursuit of a music career, starting as a background singer for Uptown Records, actually the first female artist in the company. In 1991, Blige began working on her debut album with Sean Combs – known as P. Diddy – who at the time worked as an executive at Uptown Records. Combs not only helped Blige produce her first album, but created a public image consisting of baggy clothes and baseball caps that soon became her signature style. Named the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige released her first album entitled “What’s the 411?” in 1992 – a reference to her previous job as a 4-1-1 operator – which peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200. The album featured five singles, one of which named “You Remind Me” peaked at #1 on the R&B charts, so establishing her net worth.
Blige’s strong, expressive voice combined with a mixture of hip hop and soul became her signifying feature that distinguished her from other artists. In 1994 Blige released her second album under Uptown Records entitled “My Life”; produced by P. Diddy, the album peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200, and is regarded as one of the best of Blige’s albums, being ranked #279 on The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, nominated for Best R&B Album, and in 1995 being certified three times platinum by RIAA. Mary J. Blige has now released 11 studio albums, more recently being “A Mary Christmas” released in 2013, and “Think Like a Man” in 2014..
Blige has also collected a substantial sum of money from her nation- and world-wide tours; the latest – the 10th, a co-headlining concert tour entitled “The Liberation Tour” – happened in 2012 in support of Blige’s tenth studio album.
Mary J. Blige is a well-recognized actress as well. Blige made her debut on television by playing a character in Jamie Foxx’s sitcom “The Jamie Foxx Show”. A few years later she appeared in an independent film called “Prison Song” alongside fellow rap artist Q-Tip, and in 2007 guest starred in the supernatural drama “Ghost Whisperer” with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Aisha Tyler, and appeared as a photo shoot’s creative director for the reality television series “America’s Next Top Model”, adding steadily to her net worth.
In addition, Mary J. Blige has ventured to create her own record label “Matriarch Records”, launch her first perfume called “My Life”, and release a line of sunglasses under the name of “Melodies by MJB”, all of which contribute to her net worth.
In her personal life, Mary has been married to Kendu Isaacs since 2003, but in late 2016 has apparently filed for divorce.

Mary Jane Blige Quotes
- I don’t think there’s anything they can say about me that I haven’t said about myself already. And I would be an absolute total liar, and my fans would not respect me, if I said that my life and my marriage are perfect. But we absolutely love each other; we have fun together – it’s great. Then we have our struggles, and we work through it. That’s life.
- My God is a God who wants me to have things. He wants me to bling. He wants me to be the hottest thing on the block. I don’t know what kind of God the rest of y’all are serving, but the God I serve says, “Mary, you need to be the hottest thing this year, and I’m gonna make sure you’re doing that.”
- I don’t know. Only God knows where the story ends for me, but I know where the story begins. It’s up to us to choose, whether we win or lose and I choose to win.
- It almost kills me to say I’m in love, because as soon as men hear that shit, they’re gone.
