Mario Cantone was born on 9 December 1959, in Stoneham, Massachusetts USA, of part-Italian descent, and is an actor, writer, and comedian, best known for appearing on numerous Comedy Central shows, most notably “Chappelle’s Show”. He was also part of “Sex and the City” playing the character Anthony Marentino. He is known for his fast paced comedic style, and does a lot of impressions in his routines. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

Mario was already doing impressions at a young age. While at junior high school, he did his first impression of Julia Child during a talent show. He attended Stoneham High School, and would matriculate in 1978. He then attended Emerson College and would graduate in 1982.

One of his first career opportunities was hosting a children’s show entitled “Steampipe Alley”. The show aired on WWOR-TV and he would stay with the show for its entire run from 1988 to 1993. He then started doing stand-up comedy shows, increasing both his popularity and net worth. Soon he would do stand-up concerts, incorporating impressions of famous personalities such as Bruce Springsteen, Judy Garland, Bette Davis and Jim Morrison. He also does a lot of original songs in his shows.

For his acting career, he earned popularity and net worth when he was cast in “Sex in the City” as Anthony Marentino, the gay wedding planner of Charlotte York. He also acted on stage, mainly on Broadway, making his debut in 1995, and would become part of the Tony Award winning play “Love! Valour! Compassion”, in which he played Buzz. He also appeared in a revival of “The Tempest” alongside Patrick Stewart. Later, he was cast as Timon for “The Lion King”, but would eventually leave the project. In 2002, he created the one man show “An Evening with Mario Cantone”, and also starred in “The Violet Hour” as Gidger, which received mixed reviews. Two years later, Cantone was cast in the musical “Assassins” as Samuel Byck, which was postponed due to the September 11 attacks. His second one man show was “Laugh Whore” which received a Tony Award nomination. One of his latest projects is “A Room of My Own” which he has been working on since 2010.

Other projects Mario has been a part of include various Comedy Central roasts. He also has a segment in “Chappelle’s Show” called “Ask a Gay Dude”. He’s also done voice over work, mostly for advertisements of Sunsilk, but was also the voice of Mikey Abromowitz in the animated film “Surf’s Up”. He is a regular guest on “The View”, and has transitioned to a more regular role since 2014. In 2016, Cantone appeared in an episode of “The $100,000 Pyramid”, meantime as an aside, he was also a judge of the Miss America 2014 pageant.

For his personal life, it is known that Mario married Jerry Dixon in 2011; they had been together for 20 years prior to their marriage.
