Manuel Neuer Wiki Biography

Manuel Peter Neuer was born on the 27th March 1986 in Gelsenkirchen, (then) West Germany, and is a professional soccer player in the position of goalkeeper for the German side Bayern Munich, and is also a member of the German National team. His career started in 2004.

Have you ever wondered how rich Manuel Neuer is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Neuer’s net worth is as high as $40 million, while his current salary is $9 million per year.

Since the age of two Manuel has been keen on soccer, and as he grew, his interest only became greater. He joined Schalke 04 in 1991, and passed through its youth system, before making a debut for the first team in 2006-2007 season, replacing injured Frank Rost, however, he eventually took Rost’s place permanently. During his rookie season, Manuel made 27 appearances, and although young, he was dubbed as the new Jens Lehman. Little by little Neuer became one of the leaders of Schalke, and for the 2010-2011 season, he was named captain. Unfortunately, he had outgrown Schalke’s ambitions, and decided not to extend his contract after the season. Instead, he joined Bayern Munich for a transfer worth €22 million, which made him the second most-expensive goalkeeper at that time, after Gianluigi Buffon.

Manuel continued to improve his form, and in the 2012 UEFA Champions campaign, Neuer saved some crucial penalties, including in semi-finals against Real Madrid, when he stopped penalties from Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, and in the final against Chelsea, as he stopped Juan Mata’s penalty, but that wasn’t enough to win the trophy.

Nevertheless, that didn’t discourage Neuer, as he and the rest of his team won the German Super Cup, and the same season had four consecutive clean sheets, including against the Italian side Juventus and Spanish giant Barcelona, and Bayern won the trophy in the final against Borussia Dortmund. Since Neuer’s arrival on Allianz Arena, Bayern has won four consecutive Bundesliga titles, three German cup titles, in 2012-2013, 2013-2014 and 2015-2016, the UEFA Super Cup in 2013 and FIFA World Club Cup in 2013. He has become a senior in the team, and behind captain Phillip Lahm, grown into a leader of the team too.

Apart from success at a club level, Manuel has also had success with German National team, winning the FIFA World Cup in 2014, while also winning FIFA World Cup Golden Glove that year, and was named into the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team, FIFA World Cup Dream Team, and AIPS Athlete of the Year, all in 2014.

To speak further of his accomplishments, Neuer has been named Footballer of the Year in Germany on two occasions, in 2011 and 2014, while he has been UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year four times, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Regarding his personal life, Manuel was in a relationship with Kathrin Glitch from 2009 until 2014. According to media reports, he is currently single.

Manuel is a well-known philanthropist: he has started the Manuel Neuer Kids Foundation. He won €500,000 for charity in a celebrity edition of “Wer wird Millionär?”, which is the German version of the popular TV game show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire”.

Manuel Neuer Quotes

  • I’m not the sort of person who poses in their underwear. I hate the red carpet. I prefer the green grass. After the games the highlights show mostly the goals, scoring chances, assists. The spectator tends not to remember that as a goalkeeper I make difficult saves at great risk and start moves with my efforts.
  • A lot has changed for Germany since 2010. Back then it was not certain that I would be the number one. Now I’m glad about the responsibility I take for the team.
  • The people on the streets just say ‘hi’ and let me walk on. They take relatively few photos, and those that do are tourists. Munich natives are relatively relaxed. They pretty much leave me in peace and I think that’s very good. The Bavarian mentality fits very well to me.
  • Because life constantly poses challenges, living demands courage.
  • Take what’s useful, leave out what’s useless, and add a bit of yourself!
