Luciano Pavarotti Wiki Biography

Luciano Pavarotti was born on 12th October 1935 in Modena, Italy, and was one of the most famed tenors, who sang not only operas, but also ventured into popular music, and released a number of albums. Also, he was a part of the Three Tenors, also consisting of Plácido Domingo and José Carreras. His career began in the early ‘60s and ended in 2006 with his last live performance at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Luciano passed away on 6th September 2007 from pancreatic cancer.

Have you ever wondered how rich Luciano Pavarotti was, at the time of his death? According to authoritative sources, it was estimated that Pavarotti`s net worth was as high as $275 million, earned largely through his successful career as a singer.

Luciano is the only son of Fernando Pavarotti and his wife Adele Venturi; he spent his childhood outside Modena on a farm, with his younger sister and parents, which his father rented after the World War IIbegan. Luciano`s father was an amateur tenor, and inspired by his father`s records, Luciano fell in love with opera and the performances of such artists as Giovanni Martinelli, Enrico Caruso and Beniamino. He was inspired also by Mario Lanza, and impersonated him at home in the mirror. He went to Scuola Magistrale, and after matriculation, he was in a dilemma as to whether to become a soccer goalkeeper, or to listen to his mother and become a teacher. He chose neither, and became an opera singer.

At 19 years of age, Lucian started to study music under Arrigo Pola, and just a year later had his first success, singing as a part of the male choir Corale Rossini, winning the first prize at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales. This greatly inspired him to continue with his pursuit, and direct all energy to music.

His original teacher moved to Japan, so he then studied under Ettore Campogalliani; during this time his career was in some jeopardy as a nodule developed on his vocal cords, and his voice suffered greatly. One of his performances in Ferrara was classified as disastrous, which led to Luciano`s decision to abandon his career.

However, the nodule miraculously disappeared, and Pavarotti was once again able to continue with his career.

Before he became one of the most successful tenors, Pavarotti had come a long way; he started with the performance at the Teatro Municipale in Reggio Emilia in April 1961 as Rodolfo in “La Bohème”, and just two years later, he made his international debut in Belgrade, then Yugoslavia in the production of La Traviata”, and then featured at the Vienna State Opera in “La Traviata” as well. This performance propelled him further into the music world, and once again he perfomred in Vienna, in operas “Rigoletto” and “La Bohème”. In 1965 he made his debut in the USA, appearing in Donizetti`s “Lucia di Lammermoor” in Miami. From then until his death. Lucian became what he is even today, a legend, and had many tours during his long and successful career.

He was also one of The Three Tenors, with whom he released four live albums; firstly “Carreras Domingo Pavarotti in Concert” in 1990, which achieved multiple platinum status in several countries, then “The Three Tenors in Concert 1994” (1994), which repeated the success of its predecessor, increasing Luciano`s net worth by a large margin. The third album was “The Three Tenors: Paris 1998”, which was a bit less successful, and the last one came out in 2000, entitled “The 3 Tenors Christmas”, which was became gold in the US and Germany.

Regarding his personal life, Luciano was married to Nicoletta Mantovani from 2003 until his death in 2007; the couple had two children.

Previously, he was married to Adua Veroni for almost 40 years, from 1961 until 2000; the couple had threedaughters, who reconciled with Nicoletta after his death.During his life, Pavarotti was also dedicated to humanitarian work; he was the host of the benefit concert Pavarotti & Friends, which featured such musicians as Zuchero, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, James Brown. Bono, Bryan Adams, Sheryl Crow, Elton John, Sting, and George Michael among any others, serving as a fundraiser for numerous UN causes, and numerous albums were released, the proceeds of which benefited many charities.

He also held charity concerts to raise money for such unfortunate events as the Spitak earthquake, and in 1999 he held a charity concert in Beirut after the end of the civil war. It was the largest concert after the war`s end, as it was attended by more than 20,000 people.

Thanks to his humanitarian work, Luciano received several prestigious awards, including the Nansen Medal from the UN High Commission for Refugees, Freedom of London Award and The Red Cross Award for Services to Humanity, among many others.

Luciano died from pancreatic cancer, diagnosed in 2006 while he was on farewell tour; his remains were interred in the family crypt, located in Montale Rangone, a village part of Castelnuovo Rangone. Pavarotti`s funeral was televised by CNN, while opera houses such as Vienna State Opera flew black flags in mourning of the deceased’s legend.
