Louis Theroux Quotes
- [in 2012] So the rumours seem to have been in some degree validated. I haven’t seen ITVs expose on Jimmy Savile yet, but from what I understand there are a number of credible accounts from under-aged teenaged girls of Jimmy abusing his position of trust and celebrity to procure sexual favours. I can’t say that I’m completely blindsided by these revelations. Still, it’s shocking and upsetting to have one’s worst fears confirmed. What is especially disturbing is the nature of the alleged abuse – that it apparently took place repeatedly, in the workplace and at a school he was visiting. My thoughts are with the victims. I hope they find peace.
- I’m not that comfortable doing polemic or being strident. It’s not me. I think what I’m good at is getting to know people, and trying to build a relationship over a few weeks and trying to get to the truth.
- As a student of bizarre organizations and eccentric people, the BBC feels like my natural home.
Louis Theroux Important Facts
- Went to the very prestigious public school Westminster School and was friends with Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish and future Liberal Democrats leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Several years below Clegg, Louis had the job of waking him up in the morning with a newspaper (part of an old public school tradition often called ‘fagging’ where younger pupils act as servants to older ones).
- Married his first wife to help her get a US work permit. Although a long-term couple, they never considered it a real marriage and Louis kept it private, only referring to her as his girlfriend in public.
- Lives in Harlesden, London with his wife Nancy and young sons Albert and Frederick.
- Holds dual UK and US citizenship.
- His French last name originates from the region around Sarthe and Yonne in France. It is quite common in Francophone countries and is originally spelled Théroux. His American-born father is of half French-Canadian and half Italian descent. His mother is English.
- Is often mistaken for a Frenchman by people only reading his name (since both his first and last name are French) and as solely British by people listening to him talk.
- Has a brother, Marcel Theroux, who is two years older than Louis and was born in Uganda. Marcel is a writer and journalist.
- Cousin of Justin Theroux.
- Son of Paul Theroux
