Linda Evangelista Wiki Biography
Linda Evangelista was born on 10 May 1965, in St. Catharines, Ontario Canada, the daughter of Italian immigrants. She is a model, best known for being one of the most accomplished models of all time, having been featured on over 700 magazine covers. All of her efforts have helped put her net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Linda Evangelista? As of mid-2016, authoritative sources estimate a net worth that is at $18 million, mostly earned through a successful career as a model. She is considered as “The Greatest Supermodel of All Time”, and has dedicated her career exclusively to modelling. All of her activities have ensured the position of her wealth.
At the age of 12, Linda attended a self-improvement school where she learned poise and etiquette. She then attended Denis Morris Catholic High School. In 1981, she became a part of the Miss Teen Niagara beauty pageant, and while she did not win, she caught the attention of Elite Model Management. At 16 years old, she flew to Japan to be a model, but after becoming involved in a nude shoot, she went back home and almost quit modelling. After two years, she decided to try modelling again.
In 1984, she moved to New York City and signed with Elite Model Management, later moving to Paris. At 19 years of age, she became noticed internationally, appearing on the cover of L’Officiel. Soon she would become part of numerous international publications, including Allure, Time, Vogue, and Rolling Stone. The following year, she became the muse of Karl Lagerfeld who was the head designer of Chanel, and Linda became one of the first editorial models to successfully transition to the runway, eventually becoming a part of other fashion brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Max Mara, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Perry Ellis. She also started modelling for non-fashion companies such as Pizza Hut, Visa, and American Express. In 1986, she started a partnership with photographer Steven Meisel and would soon be a part of an advertising campaign for Revlon’s “The Most Unforgettable Women in the World”.
In 1989, Linda sported a short haircut, which over time became an international sensation; even movie stars emulated the hairstyle and it helped propel Evangelista to the top spotlight. She was one of the first models to be identified with the term “supermodel”, and became one of first five supermodels during this timel; along with Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington she was considered one of “The Trinity” of models. Evangelista appeared in the George Michael music video entitled “Freedom! 90” and then in “The Oprah Winfrey Show” for an Elite model search competition. In a Vogue interview in 1990, Linda quoted “We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day” and it became one of the most famous quotes in modelling history.
She then changed her hairstyle to platinum blonde, and later switched to “technicolor” red. She started to earn the name “chameleon” because of how she could easily reinvent herself in terms of hairstyles and colors. Linda’s increasing rate would lead to other models demanding higher pay. In the 1990s, she started appearing on more billboards, and two years later, along with other supermodels, she became part of the 100th anniversary issue of Vogue.
After completing more endorsements and modelling work, she decided to retire from modelling in 1998, but then made a return to the fashion world in 2001. She continued making appearances on runways and magazines, becoming part of events including the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards, the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and then became a guest judge of “Australia’s Next Top Model”. One of her latest works was being a part of the 100th anniversary of British Vogue. She also appeared on a cover of Zoo Magazine’s 50th issue.
For her personal life, Linda married Gerald Marie in 1987 but they divorced in 1993. She also dated actor Kyle MacLachlan and they became engaged in 1995 but broke up three years later. She then had a relationship with soccer player Fabien Barthez, and got pregnant but had a miscarriage; eventually, their relationship ended in 2002. She also dated Peter Morton from 2006 to 2013.

Linda Evangelista Quotes
- Listen to your mother. She was right all a long.
- [In 2005, retracting her statement about not getting out of bed for less than $10,000 a day.] I can’t stand the way this follows me around. I said it a long time ago, and I hope today I am a different person. Now I get out of bed for a much better reason. I’m part of a team that raises millions of dollars and raises awareness of HIV and AIDS all over the world.
- People think modeling’s mindless, that you just stand there and pose, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I like to have a lot of input. I know how to wear a dress, whether it should be shot with me standing or sitting.
- I don’t diet. I just don’t eat as much as I’d like to.
- “We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day.” (Spoken in Vogue in 1990 to Jonathan Van Meter, talking about money and how she and a few other models were calling the shots and changing the game.)
