Piper has a younger brother and two younger sisters, and grew up in Nine Elms, Swindon, where she attended the Brookfield Primary School in Shaw, and then Bradon Forest Secondary School. She subsequently studied at the Sylvia Young Theatre School.
Concerning her professional career, she began as a teenager in the television show “Scratchy and Co”. Later, she worked for a commercial magazine “Smash Hits”, but at the age of 15 she signed her first record deal. In 1998, she was the youngest artist ever to reach the top on the UK Top 40 with the song “Because We Want To”, and her next single “Girlfriend” (1999) also topped the music charts. This was followed by a number of major hit singles and two successful albums, which were also successful outside Britain and Ireland, in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and later Switzerland, steadily building her net worth.
In 2003, she decided to stop singing, and went to Los Angeles to attend acting classes, afterwards appearing in the series “The Canterbury Tales” (2003). This was followed by a number of roles in series and movies, until in 2005 she was cast in “Doctor Who”, she starring with both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. In late 2007, Piper starred in the television series “Secret Diary of a Call Girl”, which was a huge success thanks to the intensive promotional campaign that preceded the series in which extensive use was made of Pipers stardom. The series became the most watched drama series on ITV2. In 2008, Piper appeared again in the role of Rose Tyler in “Doctor Who”, and in 2013 she returned to Doctor Who for the 50-year special “The Day of the Doctor”. Lianne Paul Piper Quotes
- The more things you own, the more people you need to employ.
- Weight doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy with yourself.
- Amadu is all about the family. I’ve never known love like that before, and it made me think, ‘I want a bit of that’. It kind of forced me to get to know my family again. Another reason why he’s so lovely.
- There’s not enough money in the world to get me singing “Because We Want To”, again. I wouldn’t do it. I think Beyoncé Knowles got a couple of million for a private show but I would be happy to turn it down.
- I have to teach myself. I kind of wish I’d continued with my education, but that’s something I can do in the future.
- I love fresh flowers for my home. I spend far too much money on them, buying them almost every day.
- I would really love to do a musical, I don’t know in what capacity but something funny.
- I’m happy in the UK. I absolutely love it and I’ve finally got a great group of friends. I’ve got a lovely little flat and my work’s here.
- I’m reading more than ever. I used to find it tedious, but now it’s like my little friend – it takes my mind off things.
- There are lots of great movies coming out of the U.S. but it’s not something I’ve ever really been interested in. They’re great films but I much prefer the smaller independent films, which are more thought provoking and experimental.
- Steve Coogan does something for me. He is so naughty, but I quite fancy him.
- A musical film is my idea of heaven. You can pre-record, you don’t have to sing live. Singing live was the bit I hated the most. I never felt like a confident singer.
- In the next few years I’d love to play a female version of Doctor Who. I know exactly how I would play her – she would be crafty in a clever kind of way.
- I am thinking about those things now. More so than all my friends – they’re a lot older than me, but they’re not even thinking about babies.
- [on Christopher Eccleston] We get on famously. I have learned an awful lot from him.
- That’s what the Doctor (Doctor Who (2005)) is about, essentially – having that energy that you just can’t understand.
