Leslie Sebastian Charles Wiki Biography

  • born on 21 January 1950, in Tyzabad, Trinidad and Tobago, Leslie Sebastian Charles, better known by his stage name Billy Ocean, is an English R&B/pop artist.
  • He is one of the 1980s’ most successful singer-songwriters, who has gained considerable international success and numerous awards, including a Grammy and Brit Award.
  • It has been estimated, according to reports, that the total net worth of Billy Ocean is $10 million.
  • Since the early ’80s, he has accrued his wealth through his fulfilling career, which includes 10 studio albums, several compilation albums, and a significant number of singles released.
  • Ocean also continues to make music, but not so intensively, and therefore contributes to his net worth.
  • Although he was born in Trinidad and Tobago, when he was 10 years old, Billy moved with his family to Romford, Essex, England.
  • He made early contact with music because his father was a musician himself, and thus discovered his passion and talent.
  • While a youth, Ocean sang to support himself in London clubs and was soon discovered by his first boss, John Morphew, with whom he recorded his single at London’s Pye Studios.
  • Two years later, Ocean released his sixth album, “Love Zone” which also sold well and contained successful singles including “When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going,” which became the theme for the movie “The Jewel of the Nile.
  • His net worth was gradually growing.
  • The following year, at the 1987 BRIT Awards, Billy was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male.
  • Another No.1 song, “Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car” was included in his 1988 album “Tear Down These Walls” and the album was platinum-certified.
  • His later albums failed to gain as much success as the previous ones, but platinum and gold were certified in his 1989 “Greatest Hits” set and 1997 compilation “Love is For Ever.”
  • Ocean continues to do worldwide music and tours.
  • An 18-track compilation album released in April 2010 is his latest activity.
  • The same year, at the MOBO Awards, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • He now lives in Berkshire in his private life with his wife, Judy, whom he has been married to since 1978, and the couple has three children.
  • In 2002, Ocean received an honorary doctorate of music from the University of Westminster and is now a patron of London’s Tech Music Schools.
