Lesley Stahl Wiki Biography

Lesley Rene Stahl was born on 16 December 1941, in Lynn, Massachusetts USA, to Dorothy J., an unproduced screenwriter, and Louis E. Stahl, a food company executive, of part-Jewish descent. She is a television journalist, best known as a correspondent for the CBS TV news magazine program “60 Minutes”.

So just how rich is Lesley Stahl? According to sources, Stahl has collected a fortune of over $20 million, as of mid-2017. The main source of her wealth has been her broadcasting career which began in the early 1960s.

Stahl grew up in an upper-class family in Swampscott, Massachusetts, along with her brother. She attended Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, graduating cum laude in 1963. After majoring in history at Wheaton, she enrolled at Columbia University, to study zoology.

Upon completing her education, Stahl became a researcher on John Lindsay – the Mayor New York City’s speech-writing staff. In the late ’60s she was hired as a researcher on the election team at NBC. Her career in broadcasting started with a stint in the news department of Boston television station WHDH-TV, being a producer and on-air reporter. The position led to her landing a job at CBS in 1972, moving to Washington. Two years later she became one of the network’s correspondents, working on CBS News. Her net worth began to grow.

Stahl achieved her first taste of fame by becoming a national reporter covering the Watergate affair. She later became White House correspondent during the presidencies of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, further increasing her popularity and improving her wealth too. She covered the Reagan and Bush administrations in CBS’ “Evening News” during the ’80s, while also serving as a moderator of the network’s political interview show called “Face the Nation”.

In 1991, Stahl became a correspondent of CBS TV’S popular news magazine program “60 Minutes”. Since then, she has traveled all over the globe, being involved in some of the world’s most important events. She has interviewed numerous presidents and other important figures. Her work on the show has cemented her reputation of a star news personality, significantly improving her wealth, with her annual salary reaching $1.8 million. It has also earned her several Emmy Awards.

In the meantime, Stahl has been involved in various other projects. In the late ’90s, she appeared as herself in an episode of the popular TV series “Frasier”. From 2002 to 2004 she hosted CBS’ news magazine show “48 Hours Investigates”, and in 2011 she began co-hosting CNBC’s “60 Minutes”, a spinoff of the original show. In 2014 she served as a correspondent of the documentary series “Years of Living Dangerously”, related to climate changes. All added to her net worth.

Stahl has authored two books, the 1999 “Reporting Live” and the 2016 “Becoming Grandma: The Joys and Science of the New Grandparenting”. She has also co-founded a women’s website related to politics, culture and gossip, called wowOwow.com. In addition, Stahl has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as of the Board of Selectors of Jefferson Awards for Public Service.

When it comes to her private life, Stahl has been married two times. Her first marriage was to Dr. Jeffrey Gordon, lasting from 1964 to 1967. As of 1977 she has been married to Aaron Lathan, with whom she has a son.
