Laron Landry Wiki Biography
LaRon Louis Landry is an American Football safety, born on the 14th of October 1984, in Metairie, Louisiana.
How rich is Landry? Sources estimate his net worth at $16 million earned largely during his football career which began in 2007.
Landry attended Hahnville High School in Boutte, Louisiana, where he showed great athletic promise, and was ranked as the number five high school athlete in the US. He matriculated to Louisiana State University, where he played for the LSU Tigers between 2003 – 2006. Coached by Nik Saban, Landry finished at LSU having the third highest number of interceptions in the school’s history. In 2005, he was named First Team All-Sec. He graduated with a degree in communication studies.
In 2007, Landry was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, the sixth pick. He signed a five-year contract worth $41.5 million, with $17.5 million in guarantees. He began his career with the Redskins as strong safety, later moving to free safety, after Sean Taylor, the previous free safety, was murdered. Landry experienced success with the team, helping assure his large net worth. During his time with the Redskins, he was awarded honours including NFC Pro Bowl Alternate in 2007 and NFC Defensive Player of the Week (Week Five) in 2010, after which Landry tore his Achilles tendon, interrupting his season. After further injuries in 2011, Landry was not offered another contract with the Redskins.
In March of 2012, Landry signed with the New York Jets, securing a $3.5 million one year contract, with $700,000 in incentives. Two years after his initial Achilles injury, Landry was still recovering, his heel bone still not fully repaired. He would return to the game in July, and enjoy a successful season with the Jets, so much so that he went to the Pro Bowl.
In 2013, Landry signed with the Indianapolis Colts for four years, in a deal worth $24 million, with $14 million in guarantees, a significant contribution to his overall wealth. LaRon generated controversy when he was suspended from the NFL for four games, for the use of performance enhancing drugs in the 2014 season, and he was again suspended, for ten games in March of 2015 for the same reason. He was suspended for a third time in November 2015, this time indefinitely. It is unclear if Landry will return to the game, though he is now eligible to apply for reinstatement. As they stand, his career statistics record 617 tackles and one touchdown.
In his personal life, Landry has a daughter born in 2005 named Trinity, but her mother is unknown. His brother, Dawan Landry, is also professional football player, currently signed to the New York Jets. His teammates gave him nicknames including “Iron Man” and “Dirty 30”, 30 being the number under which he played for the Redskins. He is active on Twitter, and regularly posts updates about his workouts to his 85,000 followers.
