Within a year he was riding banks, while by the end of 1977 Lance started to ride skateparks as well as ramps and pools. This was followed by winning at least second place on each amateur skateboarding competition that he participated in. In 1981, Lance joined Variflex with which he stayed for a year; these early achievements provided the basis for Lance Mountain’s net worth.

Affected and somehow revolted by this, Mountain left Powell Peralta, and subsequently in 1991 co-founded his own team – The Firm. He gathered some of the best skateboarders of his generation, and together they released four vide,os and participated in numerous competitions during The Firm’s 15-year-long existence, which was officially ended in 2006.
