Kevin Edmund Youkilis Wiki Biography
Kevin Edmund Youkilis was born on 15 March 1979, in Cincinnati, Ohio USA, to Carolyn and Mike Youkilis, of Jewish descent. He is a former professional baseball player, best known for being a first baseman or third baseman for the Boston Red Sox.
So just how wealthy is Kevin Youkilis? Sources state that Youkilis has earned a net worth over $24 million, as of early 2017, accumulated during his baseball career which began in 2001.
Youkilis attended Cincinnati’s Sycamore High School, matriculating in 1997. While at high school, he became an avid baseball player. He later enrolled in the University of Cincinnati, majoring in finance. He joined the school’s team the Cincinnati Bearcats, becoming a second-team All-American and first-team All-Conference USA, and setting school records by hitting three home runs in one game and 19 for the season in his junior year. He earned second-team All-American again in his senior year, setting school records for home runs, walks, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
In 2001 Youkilis was selected in the eighth round as the 243rd overall pick by the Boston Red Sox in the Major League Baseball amateur draft. In the next four years, he played in the minor leagues for numerous teams, such as the Lowell Spinners, Sarasota Sox, Trenton Thunder, Portland Sea Dogs, Pawtucket Red Sox and Navojoa. His net worth began to grow.
In 2004, he was finally called up to join the major leagues as a third baseman, becoming only the seventh player in the history of Red Sox to hit a home run in his first big league game. The following year he was called up permanently, and became a regular first baseman in 2006. One of his best seasons came in 2007, when he became the first Red Sox hitter to score an inside-the-park home run since Trot Nixon. He then played in his 120th consecutive game at first base without an error, breaking the team’s record set in 1921 by Stuffy McInnis. he played his 179th consecutive game at first base later that year, without an error, breaking the American League record set in 1973 by Mike Hegan. This earned him the 2007 AL Gold Glove award for first basemen. His popularity and net worth was boosted.
In 2008, Youkilis signed a one-year contract worth $3 million with the Red Sox, significantly improving his wealth. Not longs after, he broke the Major League record for most consecutive error-less games by a first baseman, previously held by Steve Garvey at 194 games, soon establishing a new major league record for a first basemen in his 205th game. Later that year he won the AL Hank Aaron Award for the best offensive performance. In 2009, he signed a four-year, $41.25 million contract with the team, considerably adding to his net worth.
In 2012 Youkilis was traded to the Chicago White Sox, but remained only briefly with the team; at the end of the year, he became a free agent. Then, in 2013 he signed a one-year, $12 million deal with the New York Yankees. However, his performance with the team was limited due to a back injury, and the following year he signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball, but after 21 games with the team, he announced his retirement from baseball.
Youkilis soon began working as a scout and development consultant for the Chicago Cubs. In 2016 he and his brother opened a brewpub called Loma Brewing Company, in California.
In his private life, Youkilis was married to Enza Sambataro from 2008 to 2010. As of 2012, he has been married to Julie Brady, the sister of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The couple has one child together. Youkilis is also involved in philanthropy. In 2007 he founded a charitable organization called Kevin Youkilis Hits For Kids, aimed at raising awareness for the betterment of children.
