Katherine Anne Couric Wiki Biography
Katherine Anne Couric was born on 7 January 1957, in Arlington, Virginia USA, of German-Jewish (mother) and French (father) descent, and is an American journalist, TV anchor, author, television producer and actress, perhaps best known now as Yahoo global news anchor.
How rich is Katie Couric? Sources estimate that Katie’s net worth is over $85 million; she has gathered the majority of her wealth from her profitable career in the entertainment industry with memorable appearances as an anchor in “Good Morning America”, “ABC World News”, “The Today Show” and “CBS Evening News”, since beginning her television career in 1979.
Katie was educated at Yorktown High School, and during her later teens gained experience at radio station WAVA in Washington DC, before graduating from the University of Virginia in 1979 with a degree in American Studies. She first worked for ABC in Washingto DC, before joining CNN as a reporter and news editor. In 1989, Couric joined NBC News and until 1991 worked as an anchor substitute and filled in for Bryant Gumbel, Jane Pauley, John Palmer and Mary Alice Williams. Couric’s public recognition began in 1991 with her joining the morning television show “Today” as a national political correspondent, and later becoming a permanent co-anchor. Several years later Katie Couric became a co-anchor of the weekly TV news magazine entitled “Now with Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric”, which was then merged into the “Dateline NBC” show. These roles added significantly to Katie’s net worth.
In the early 2000s, Couric appeared in various TV specials including “Harry Potter: Behind the Magic”, co-hosted opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games, and interviewed a number of famous people such as Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and J. K. Rowling. Such public exposure significantly contributed to Katie Couric’s net worth at the time.
In 2006, however, Couric decided to leave the “Today” show, and instead joined “CBS Evening News”. She then became a managing editor and an anchor of “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric”. Even though the show was behind “ABC World News” and “NBC Nightly News”, it still brought Couric an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2008 and 2009 for the best newscast. Overall during her career, Katie Couric has contributed to a number of TV news shows, including “60 minutes”, “CBS Reports”, and “Sarah Palin interviews with Katie Couric”, which brought her a Walter Cronkite Award for Journalism Excellence.
In 2011, Couric signed a $40 million contract with ABC, and a year later aired her own show entitled “Katie”, which was nominated for People’s Choice Awards, as well as Daytime Emmy Awards. In addition, Couric has appeared in several movies and TV shows, such as “Austin Powers in Goldmember” with Mike Myers, the sitcom entitled “Will & Grace”, and an animated comedy film “Shark Tale”, alongside Will Smith, Angelina Jolie, and Jack Black.
In her personal life, Katie Couric married Jay Monaghan in 1989, and they had two daughters before Monahan died from colon cancer in 1998. Since then, Couric has actively participated in charity events, in particular becoming a spokeswoman for colon cancer awareness. Couric is also active in National Hockey League’s “Hockey Fights Cancer” campaign, as well as National Parkinson Foundation’s campaign to raise awareness of a Parkinson’s disease. Katie married John Molner in 2014.

Katherine Anne Couric Quotes
- [on the role of anchors in frontline battle situations] It’s a very hard balance because there are stories that warrant the anchors being there, but you also have to be cognizant that it is not as window-dressing. You have reporters there, day in and day out, covering a story – and then you have an anchor parachute in. You hope whoever that anchor is brings something to the table.
- [on what makes a good anchor] Someone who’s experienced and has credibility. When I came to CBS people said I lacked gravitas, which was frankly an unfair assessment. I had probably done more interview than most of the sitting anchors, and certainly my share of hard-hitting ones. I always said ‘gravitas’ was Latin for ‘testicles’.
- To be successful, you have to be brave enough to try and fail.
- I could announce one morning that the world was going to blow up in three hours and people would be calling in about my hair!
