Julia Louis-Dreyfus Wiki Biography
Julia Scarlett Elizabeth Louis-Dreyfus, was born on 13 January 1961, in New York City, USA, of part-French ancestry, and is a comedian, voice actress, actress, as well as a television producer. Julia rose to prominence with the role of Elaine Benes in the TV sitcom entitled “Seinfeld”, which is considered to be one of the most successful sitcoms in the history of TV. Louis-Dreyfus’ portrayal of Benes earned her not only a large public exposure, but also gained her a Golden Globe Award, five SAG awards, as well as an Emmy Award.
So just how rich is Julia Louis-Dreyfus? According to authoritative sources, Julia’s net worth is estimated to be a over $220 million. A large part of Louis-Dreyfus’ wealth comes from her many appearances on television. In 2007, Louis-Dreyfus was earning $225,000 per episode in the TV sitcom series “The New Adventures of Old Christine”, while in 2009 her salary per episode grew to $275,000. With such successful career beginnings, Julia Louis-Dreyfus started receiving offers to appear in films and comedy series.
Julia’s childhood was interesting, as she spent time in several countries following her stepfather’s work with Project HOPE, in Sri Lanka, Colombia, and Tunisia, amongst others. She eventually matriculated from Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1979, and then attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she joined the Delta Gamma sorority, while studying theatre, but dropped out to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.[
Louis-Dreyfus’ career started with “The Second City”, an improvisational comedy group, whose former members include Amy Poehler, Shelley Long and Stephen Colbert. Dreyfus then joined the “Practical Theatre Company” with which she performed at various events. It was due to her appearances with this group that she was invited to become a part of the “Saturday Night Live” sketch comedy show, on which she worked for three years, during which time she met people such as Jim Belushi and Eddie Murphy. In 1985, Dreyfus left SNL and subsequently made an appearance in films including “Hannah and Her Sisters” directed by Woody Allen and “Soul Man”.
Dreyfus’ big breakthrough followed shortly after, as in 1990 she was cast for a role in “Seinfeld”, a sitcom starring Jerry Seinfeld and Michael Richards. Considered to be one of the best written series of all time, “Seinfeld” was indeed a huge national hit, and helped Dreyfus establish herself in the entertainment industry, as well as contributing to her net worth. The show ran for nine seasons, and after that the cast members went separate ways.
Dreyfus lent her voice to a character in a 1998 film “A Bug’s Life”, and was a recurring guest in the comedy series “Arrested Development”. Dreyfus was in a limelight again in 2005 when she was cast to appear in the sitcom called “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. The show ran for five seasons, and during its time left a huge impact on audiences, as well as being nominated nine times for Primetime Emmy Awards, while Louis-Dreyfus secured a win for an Emmy Award. At the peak of her career, Julia Louis-Dreyfus was honored with the Legacy of Laughter award in 2009, and a year later was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In her personal life, Julia has been married to Brad Hall since 1987, and they have two sons. Politically she has supported Democratic presidential candidates, and is a strong activist on environmental issues.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Quotes
- I’m open to any material that’s good. Be it a short film, be it a feature length film. I mean, good ideas aren’t low-hanging fruit ready to be picked. They’re sometimes very hard to come by. So I’m interested in good ideas no matter what form they take.
- [2014, on continuing her pivotal role on Veep (2012)] I think there’s something to be said for working as a group, collaborating over a period of time. Needless to say, we know each other and we have seen each other’s rhythms, managed to pull together a really fine group of actors, writers, directors. It’s a good dance we’ve got going along right now.
- [on the current television production scene] It has certainly changed. The business model of television, meaning the currency of ratings, is not what it used to be back in the early days of Seinfeld (1989). It’s sort of the wild, wild west, because now there are so many platforms and areas for good television, which is really exciting. I love working in pay cable because, from a creative point-of-view, the latitude is so phenomenal.
- [on undertaking the role of Eva in Enough Said (2013)] I was such a massive Nicole Holofcener fan that it was an irresistible cocktail. She has such a distinctive voice, don’t you think?
- [on Nicole Holofcenter] She runs a set that that’s very, very, very relaxed. Her dog comes to the set, her kids come to the set, my kids come to the set, my parents come to the set, my best friend from the third grade, her best friend. There is a comfort she promotes on set that helps everybody relaxed into behaving I would say as realistically as possible.
- I love the film festival circuit. I think there’s something about it, I don’t know. Maybe I’m being Pollyanna-ish about this, but it’s an opportunity to be very supportive of filmmakers, and there’s just this goodwill which I love.
- [2013, on accepting an Emmy Award for Veep (2012)] This is so much good fortune it is almost too much to bear. I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to make people laugh. It’s a joyful way to make a living.
- Whenever I felt down, my mom would remind me that sense of humor gets you through just about anything.
- [on playing the leading character on Veep (2012)] Well, let’s see. I personally am not the Vice-President of the United States. I want to make sure everyone understands that. But the aspect of presenting yourself in a certain way to the public and be liked – there is a parallel between public life and life as a person in show business, and that’s sort of fun to draw on. I’m trying to watch a lot of in-between moments on C-SPAN.
- I will quote Norman Lear, who said that celebrity is something you can spend. And so I have taken my so-called celebrity and occasionally spent it down on causes or things that I’m passionate about. I’m not running for office. I’m not a scientist. But I’m a concerned citizen.
- I’m not somebody who really believes in curses, but curse this baby! [on the so called “Seinfeld curse”, in which little or no success has come since the show to the four main actors, upon accepting her Emmy Award for The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006)]
