Joseph Saddler Wiki Biography
Joseph Saddler is a Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies-born hip hop recording artist as well as a DJ who is perhaps best known as a member of the legendary hip hop band Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Born on 1 January 1958, Flash is regarded as one of the founding figures of hip hop as the innovations he made in the genre are synchronous even today.
An honorable name in hip-hop and rap, a true innovator of music who is regarded as one of the founding fathers of hip-hop DJ-ing, one might wonder how rich is Flash? As estimated by sources, Flash enjoys a net worth of $6 million as of early 2017, the major source of his income is obviously the music and band that he is known most for, Grand master Flash and the Furious Five. His joint collaboration with rappers such as Kurtis Blow and Lovebug Starski saw him gain immense popularity. His career as a group performer and also his successful solo career has made him a legend in hip hop. Flash’s innovations such as Backspin technique, Punch phrasing and Scratching have now become standard techniques today in DJ-ing.
Joseph grew up in The Bronx, New York City, USA where he was brought up by his family. Flash attended Samuel Gompers High School where he learned about fixing electronics. His father was a Caribbean and Black American music enthusiast who had a big collection of music record with which Flash was fascinated, and would frequently get in trouble for touching his records, however, his interest in music was noticed early by his family, and he got his very own DJ set when he was still young. His enthusiasm and experimentation led him to develop various beats, and change tracks easily. As disco was out of his reach due to his age during his teenage years, he performed in block parties and used to host his own parties as well.
After forming “The Furious Five” with rapper Kurtis Blow in the mid-70s, the collaboration went on to sign a major label, but his work with Cowboy, Scorpio and Rahim took him to new heights and helped him make music history. The group had successful singles like Freedom, The Message and many more that rhythmically depicting the struggles of inner city residents. In 1984 the group went down due to internal disagreements, after which Flash embarked on his journey as a solo artist. He was able to achieve mainstream success, a feat that many were skeptical about, and every part of his musical journey has been helping Flash to add to his net worth.
His work in music has been honored many a times with several awards; BET Hip Hop award in 2006, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Grammy Awards to name a few. His band was also been added to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of fame in 2007 which is a very prestigious thing for music bands.
Although not much is known about his personal and family life, he has apparently recently married his long-time girlfriend, but there are no details available.
