John Varvatos was born on the 8th August 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, USA of Greek descent, and is best recognized in the media for being a fashion designer of menswear, who has worked for such fashion brands as Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Converse, etc; he is also recognized for establishing the Polo Jeans Company. Besides that, he is also known as a radio personality, who has his own radio show. His career has been active since the early 1980s.

He became a part of the Polo Ralph Lauren company 1983, and eventually left Lauren and joined Calvin Klein in 1990, where he held the position of head of menswear design, and was responsible for launching the cK brand. John then returned to Ralph Lauren in the position of head of menswear design, while the same year he also started his own business called Polo Jeans Company.
