John Utendahl was born on 19 June 1957, in Queens, New York City USA, and is a businessman best known to the world as the former owner of the investment banking group Utendahl Group, which he sold to Williams Capital Group in 2010. As of 2016, John serves as Vice-Chairman of the Bank of America.

John is of mixed ancestry, as he has Dutch and African American roots. He grew up in Queens and after high school matriculation, he enrolled at Long Island University, from which he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He furthered his education at Columbia University, earning MBA degree in finance.

After he finished his education, John entered the Wall Street and found his first engagement at Solomon Brothers in 1982. He worked as a corporate bond trader and then left the Solomon Brothers to join Merrill Lynch. Ten years after working for other companies, he started his own company, the Utendahl group. Little by little his investment group grew in size and worth, which only increased his wealth to a large degree. After many years of successful management of the investment group, John decided to sell the company to the Williams Capital Group. However, he didn’t sell all stake that he had in the company as he is still a minority stakeholder of the Utendahl Capital Management, a subsidiary of the larger Utendahl group.

The same year he sold his firm to the Williams Capital Group, it was announced that he has been appointed as Vice Chairman of the Deutsche Bank Americas, which also added to his net worth.

However, in 2015, he left his position and joined Bank of America. As of 2016, he has become the new Vice-Chairman of the Bank of America, a position he still holds.
