John Terry Wiki Biography
John Terry was born on the 7th December 1980 in Barking, Essex, England, and is a professional footballer who spent his entire career playing at centre-back for Chelsea FC, and also recording 78 appearances and six goals for England. Terry won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and one UEFA Champions League title, all in Roman Abramovich’s era at Stamford Bridge. His career started in 1998.
Have you ever wondered how rich John Terry is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Terry’s net worth is as high as $70 million, earned largely through his successful career as a football player, including from various endorsement deals, and from a latest reputed annual salary of $12.5 million.
John Terry went to the Eastbury Comprehensive School and played football for the local amateur team Senrab alongside future Premier League stars such as Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Bobby Zamora, and Ledley King. He later joined West Ham United’s youth academy but moved to Chelsea in 1995, signing his first professional deal in 1997.
Terry debuted for Chelsea in October 1998 as a late substitute against Aston Villa, while he recorded his first start in an FA Cup tie against Oldham Athletic. He played only six Premier League games during his first two seasons at Chelsea, but managed to score a goal in FA Cup in 2000. John spent some time with Nottingham Forest on loan in 2000, but then returned to his parent club and appeared in 22 matches in the 2000-01 season. In December 2001, Terry captained the Blues for the first time in his career, and after the retirement of Frenchman Marcel Desailly, he became a permanent team captain.
In the 2004-05 season, Jose Mourinho took over at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea won the Premier League title, while Terry was named Player of the Year by his fellow professionals, and was the best defender in the Champions league that year. Chelsea defended the title the following year, and Terry appeared in 50 games and scored seven goals in total, but then spent time on the sidelines during the next two seasons due to various injuries. He played in the 2008 Champions League Final against Manchester United, but missed a penalty, slipping in the process of shooting, and Chelsea lost in the shootout.
In 2010, Chelsea won the Premier League title and FA Cup, while in 2012, they reached the Champions League Final, but Terry was suspended for the game and didn’t participate in Chelsea’s win over Bayern Munich, their first ever Champions League title. In November 2012, John scored his 50th career goal against Liverpool, while two years later, he captained Chelsea for the 500th time in a game against Crystal Palace. Although he announced that he would leave Chelsea in summer 2016, the club offered him a new one-year deal and he will stay until the end of the current campaign. The new manager, Antonio Conte, confirmed that Terry will remain the team captain; however, he is not in the Italian’s plans as Gary Cahill and David Luiz emerged as his first-choice options for centre-back positions.
John Terry made his international debut in a game between England and Serbia and Montenegro in June 2003, while he got his first start against Croatia the following August. He went on to record 78 caps for England and score six goals, captaining the side until Fabio Capello removed him as a captain in February 2010, following controversies in his personal life. Terry retired from international football in September 2012.
Regarding his personal life, John Terry married Toni in 2007 and has twins with her; they currently live in Oxshott, Surrey. Terry was involved in controversy after his four-month extramarital affair with then-girlfriend of his teammate Wayne Bridge, which was apparently the main reason for Fabio Capello removing him as England captain in 2010.
