Have you ever wondered how rich John Salmons is, as of late 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Salmons’ net worth is as high as $20 million, an amount earned largely through his successful career as a basketball player, active from 2002.
John went to Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, where he excelled as a scorer, leading his team to the state championship title in 1997. During his high school career, John scored more than 1000 points.
After high school he enrolled at the University of Miami, Florida, where he continued to dominate the court, starting 107 consecutive games and on the way scoring 1287 points, recording 687 rebounds and 433 assists, while also added a respective number of steals with 192, which had made him the first player in school history to achieve such statistics. Thanks to his successful career, he earned Second-team All-Big East honors in 2002, and Third-team All-Big East honors in 2001.
He declared for the 2002 NBA Draft, and was selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the 26th overall pick, however, he never played a single game for the Spurs, as he was traded upon drafting to the Philadelphia 76ers. In his rookie season, John played in 64 games, but his playing time was limited to only eight minutes per game, hence, his numbers weren’t as good as he expected. He played for the 76ers until the 2006 season, but his numbers didn’t become much better. He joined the Sacramento Kings, but before that he was about to be sent to the Toronto Raptors through a sign and trade deal, however, he opted out of the deal and then signed with the Kings.
He played for the Kings the next two years and massively improved his stats, averaging 18.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. After he had picked up his form, John was traded to the Chicago Bulls with Brad Miller for Drew Gooden, Michael Ruffin, Cedric Simmons, and Andrés Nocioni. He continued playing well with the Bulls, and was one of the driving forces of the Bulls’ attack in the play-offs, however, they lost to the Boston Celtics in the seventh game.
In February 2010, John was sent to the Milwaukee Bucks, playing in the 30 games remaining in the 2009-2010 season, averaging 19.9 points per game, his career-high. He stayed one more year in Milwaukee before he was traded to the Kings. Before the trade, John opted out from his last year of the contract and re-signed with the Bucks, which only added to his wealth, but he was traded just a year into his new contract.
During his second stint with the Kings, John’s number declined year after year, and in 2014 he was sent to the Toronto Raptors. After 60 games and 21 minutes per game, John was sent further to the Atlanta Hawks, who immediately waived him.
Through the 2014-2015 season, John played for the New Orleans Pelicans, and since then has been without engagement, but hasn’t yet announced his retirement.
Regarding his personal life, John has been married to Taneisha since 2006. He is a devout Christian, and has spoken on behalf of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
