John Georges was born on 16 October 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana USA, of part-Greek descent. John is a businessman, best known to be a former member of the Louisiana Board of Regents which oversaw higher education in the state. He is also the owner of the daily newspaper “The Advocate” and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

He is also a commissioner of the New Orleans Public Belt Road and is the chairman of Georges Enterprises. As he continues his endeavors, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

At a young age, John was already working for the family business, just doing sweeping work and makinge deliveries in a truck. He showed leadership qualities at an early age and was part of various organizations in high school and college; he attended Tulane University and graduated in 1983.

Georges continued to work in business in the next few years while also showing interest in politics. In 1992, he was appointed to the Board of Regents of Louisiana, responsible for the budget of public higher education. He also served as a member of various other organizations, including the LSU Medical Foundation, and Tulane President’s Council. Later on, George would become the commissioner of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, responsible for maintaining the publicly owned railroad in New Orleans.

John later created Georges Enterprises and is the chairman of the company. The company includes food services, arcade entertainment, offshore marine services, and grocery distribution. The company was originally named Imperial Trading Company prior to him joining the business. It has since grown at such a rapid pace that it has helped him increase his net worth significantly.

In 2007 he tried campaigning to become the governor of Louisiana as an independent candidate, but finished third in the balloting, after contributing around $5 million of his own money for his campaign. Three years later, he then tried his hand at the New Orleans mayoral election, but also finished in third place despite spending more than any other candidate.

In 2013, Georges purchased the largest daily newspaper in Louisiana called “The Advocate”. Founded in 1982, it remains as one of the few newspaper companies in the United States which still has a growing print circulation. The company had been owned by the Manship family for many years before his acquisition.

For his personal life, it is known that, having met through a blind date, John married Dathel Coleman and they have two children. He is also known for doing a lot of philanthropic work; he’s contributed to museums, universities, and non-profit organizations, and supports many charities, plus helping in recovery efforts after Hurricane Katrina. He is also fluent in Greek, and is an Orthodox Christian.
