John Daniel Johnson III Wiki Biography
Daniel Paul Johns was born on 22 April 1979, in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, and is a songwriter, singer, and musician, best known to be the former front man of the band Silverchair. He’s also part of The Dissociatives alongside Paul Mac, but all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Daniel Johns? As of early-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $20 million, mostly earned through a successful career in music, being ranked by Rolling Stone as one of “The 25 Most Under-rated Guitarists”. He’s worked on numerous projects and as he continues his career it is expected that his wealth will increase.
Daniel attended Newcastle High School and during his time there was already playing in a band, originally called The Innocent Criminals. They would record a demo of their song “Tomorrow” which won a competition held by the television program “Nomad”. They soon changed their name to Silverchair, and would get a deal with Sony Music for three albums in 1994. The following year they released the album “Frogstomp”, and the song “Tomorrow” would earn a significant popularity in Australia. In 1997 they released “Freak Show”, and followed it up with “Neon Ballroom”. His net worth was increasing quickly at this point. In 2002, they released the album “Diorama”, but would then go on a long hiatus.
During the hiatus, Daniel worked on numerous side projects including The Dissociatives. The duo released the EP “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Rock”, and would go on tour to promote their songs. In 2005, Silverchair reunited and then worked on the album “Young Modern” which was released two years later. In 2011, the band then went on another hiatus and Johns would work on a film called “my Mind’s Own Melody”. In 2012, he then worked on the soundtrack “Atlas” for Qantas Airlines, and worked with The Veronicas and rapper 360 too. He then released a new song as a solo artist entitled “Aerial Love”, followed by his debut album called “Talk” released in 2015. The album featured a mix of numerous genres, and peaked in second spot on the ARIA Albums Chart, also finding popularity in several other countries. In 2016, he then collaborated with Slumberjack in the song “Open Fire”. His continued projects have all helped in his steady rise in net worth.
For his personal life, it is known that Daniel married longtime girlfriend Natalie Imbruglia in 2002, but they divorced in 2008 citing not spending enough time together as the reason. He’s also had a relationship with model Louise Van der Vorst, and fashion designer Estelita Huijer. Johns is a vegan and is known for his animal rights support. He’s also been diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and reactive arthritis while touring with Silverchair. He’s had several controversies throughout his career including a claim that Johns had taken a joint with Bono, Natalie Imbruglia and Peter Garrett which was later referred to as a joke. He was arrested in 2014 for driving under the influence which resulted in a fine; he apologized for the event and attended a traffic offenders program.

John Daniel Johnson III Quotes
- Basically, the reason I’m vegan is because when I was about 16 or 17 years old, I began to understand that we don’t need to contribute to the killing and exploitation of animals to feed our bodies correctly.
- I have a theory because I was being beaten up a lot by people outside of school, it was almost like if I could make myself sick enough they’d take sympathy on me.
- I’m always active in trying to educate people when it comes to eating animal products, testing on animals, and the health benefits of being vegan, although I’m probably not the best person to be talking about the latter at the moment.
- We never considered ourselves to be a good band or anything, we just thought we were playing for fun and we wanted to play music that sounded like Black Sabbath or Soundgarden or the music we were into at that time.
- We met The Cult and were talking to them for a while. We went a few places with Offspring.
- We were perceived as a post-grunge band.
- We were really motivated to do something with this record overseas, even though I hate touring.
- When we first began and I was 14, my influences were the stuff that was in my parent’s record collection like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.
- With our first two records we backed ourselves into a hole musically.
- The touring for this album was definitely going to be the most intense touring we’ve done.
- There are no big groupie fans or anything.
- There was three or four years of my life where I hated myself and you know, would have quite happily ended it.
- Though, since the first record, I’ve dramatically changed my expectations for our records.
- Touring doesn’t kill me and I can handle it.
- It just makes everything more pleasurable when you’ve got someone that emotionally is there to rely on.
- It makes it hard to get over a certain period of your life when you are constantly revisiting it every night.
- Kinda when I stopped eating was on our second album, just as it felt like everything was so out of control.
- Reactive arthritis is something I’ve been dealing with for nearly a year.
- So I went and visited a doctor and he diagnosed me with reactive arthritis.
- I start sweating and shaking and having panic attacks if I am not at home.
- I think I definitely got scared by the second or third time a doctor told me I was dying.
- I have not really experienced any significant conflict with anyone in regard to my choice to be vegan, although going out to eat is hard sometimes.
- I know if I don’t tour people will forget the record and you run a high risk of the record failing.
- I never really paid attention to sales until the second record.
- There’s an inherent thing in me where, if things are going too smooth, I’ll sabotage the hell out of them, just to make the music more of a sanctuary.
- I am doing everything humanly possible to try and get well, but lately things have just kept getting worse.
- I am very scared of being outside my home for long periods of time.
- I get very anxious and am scared in crowds and things like that.
- I had to try and find a way to express happiness without sounding corny.
- I’m lucky the arthritis happened at the time that it did because of the record.
- None of us are really dumb and none of us are really smart. We’re in the middle.
- I wrote… Neon Ballroom in that time where I hated music, really everything about it, I hated it.
- I try to stay positive by focusing on how much I’ll appreciate my health if I get better.
- I have never had a social life, don’t ever want one because it’s boring. I’m just not very good with people, and you meet people every night who expect you to be this rock star with these developed social skills, which I don’t have.
- I love life, it’s the best thing in the whole world.
- (On Silverchair’s stunning new album, Diorama) “No matter what people have got going on in their lives, hopefully when they play this album it will make them forget about everyday stuff. When music does that it’s magical and, for me, that’s what “Diorama” is about.”
