John Broward Culpepper was born on 8 May 1969, in Tallahassee, Florida USA, and is a former professional American Football player, best known as a defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears in the National Football League (NFL), as well as for his participation in the reality television competition “Survivor”.

Culpepper grew up in Tallahassee, where he attended Leon High School, playing for the school’s football team the Leon Lions and establishing impressive results. In 1988 he enrolled in the University of Florida on an athletic scholarship, earning his BA degree in history following his junior year. He eventually came back to Florida obtaining his MA degree and a law degree in 2001.While at college, Culpepper played for the Florida Gators, the team for which his father once played as center, and his uncle as fullback. During his tenure with the Gators, he established himself as a valuable defensive tackle, being named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in every season. He was also a first-team Academic All-American, earning the Draddy Trophy as college football’s most outstanding student-athlete. As a freshman, Culpepper was a first-team All-SEC and a consensus first-team All-American, serving as the captain on the team’s Southeastern Conference championship team.

Following an impressive college career, Culpepper was selected in the tenth round as the 264th overall pick, by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1992 NFL Draft. After two seasons spent with the Vikings, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1994, remaining with the team for the next six years, which enabled him to achieve a great level of popularity and to earn significant net worth. In 2000 he played for the Chicago Bears, additionally improving his wealth.
