Jo Dee is of Italian and Irish ancestry; she grew up in her hometown with two sisters and a brother, who greatly helped her in her beginnings. From an early age, Jo Dee was influenced by country music and some of the most renowned musicians such as Reba McEntire, Patsy Cline and The Juds, She started performing on her own, with the help of her sisters and brother playing in local clubs, which lasted until her high school matriculation, after which she moved from her hometown to Nashville Tennessee. There, she held several jobs while also making appearances in contest gigs, as her main goal was launching a professional career in music. She received a gig on one of many radio shows, and soon attracted the attention of music producer Byron Gallimore, who helped Jo Dee to record her demo tape which was sent to executives of the Curb Records. Furthermore, Jo Dee befriended Tim McGraw who was already signed to Curb Records, and with his help and fellow producer James Stroud, Jo Dee received a record deal.
Her debut album came out in 1996 entitled “Jo Dee Messina”, which spawned such hits as “Heads Carolina, Tails California”, and “You’re Not in Kansas Anymore”, and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks. Furthermore, the album achieved gold status in the US, and encouraged her to continue in music. Jo Dee released her second album “I’m Alright” (1988), which reached No. 5 on the US Country chart, and achieved double platinum status in the US, further increasing her wealth. Her third album “Burn”, became her first to top the US Country chart, and it spawned hits “That’s the Way”, and “Bring on the Rain” – a duet with Tim McGraw, all the above adding to her net worth.
Jo Dee continued in the same rhythm, and in 2005 released her fourth album – “Delicious Surprise”, which also reached No. 1 on the US Country chart, and achieved gold status, adding further to her net worth. Some of the hits from the album include the No. 1 hit “My Give a Damn’s Busted”, and “Not Going Down”, among others. She then focused more on her family with occasional concerts and a few singles, such as “Biker Chick”, “I’m Done”, “That’s God”, and in 2010 she released three extended plays, “Unmistakable: Love”, “Unmistakable: Drive”, and “Unmistakable: Inspiration”.
Most recently, Jo Dee released her fifth album, entitled “Me”, which reached No. 19 on the US Country chart. The album was released through her own record label, Dreambound Records, and was funded through Kickstarter, starting in spring 2013.
