Jimmy Smith Wiki Biography

Jimmy Lee Smith Jr. was born on the 9th February 1969, in Detroit, Michigan USA, and is a retired National Football League (NFL) wide receiver who played for the Dallas Cowboys (1992-1993) with who he won two Super Bowls, and Jacksonville Jaguars (1995-2005), becoming one of the best Jaguars’ players.

Have you ever wondered how rich Jimmy Smith is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Smith’s net worth is as high as $1 million, an amount earned largely through his successful career as an American Football player.

Jimmy was born to Jimmy and Etta Smith; he went to Callaway High School in Jackson, Mississippi, where he played football for high school team, and earned all-state honors in his senior year. Also, during his high school days, he got the nickname Silk, given by his teammates. After matriculation he enrolled at Jackson State University, where he continued his playing career. Becoming a starter immediately, he teamed up with future NFL player Tim Barnett, to form the top receiving duo in Division I-AA. Jimmy amassed 110 receptions, 2,073 yards and 16 touchdowns in three seasons; he graduated with a BA in business administration.

After college he declared for the 1992 NFL Draft, and was selected by the Dallas Cowboys as the 36th overall pick, but unfortunately, he suffered a broken right fibula during the Dallas Blue-White Scrimmage, and missed the whole season. Before the following season started, Jimmy was the best in practice and pre-season games, however, he had to undergo an emergency appendectomy, which became worse when he developed a severe post-surgical infection, which was nearly fatal, and Jimmy again didn’t play a single game for the Cowboys. He was then put on a list that comprises players with non-football injuries, and had to demand his salary through arbitration, as he didn’t want to accept a cut in his payment. The Cowboys released Jimmy in July 1994; although he didn’t play a single game, he was on the roster of the Cowboys team that won two consecutive Super Bowls.

After Dallas, Jimmy’s next stop was Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Eagles, however, the front office released Jimmy just a month into his contract.

Nevertheless, he didn’t surrender and felt that he could contribute to NFL teams, and signed a contract with the expansion franchise the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 1996 he became the team’s starting wide receiver and posted his first 1000+ yards season, with 1,244, and also had seven touchdowns. He played for the Jaguars until his retirement in 2005, and posted several records that still stand. He appeared in five Pro Bowl games, consecutively from 1997 to 2001, while he was also named into Second-team AP All-Pro in 1998 and 1999. He finished his career with 12,287 yards and 67 touchdowns, and an enhanced net worth.

Regarding his personal life, Jimmy is married to Sandra with whom he has five children. Since the late 2000s, Jimmy has been in constant problems with the drugs and illegal weapons charges, which led to him being imprisoned for two years for possession of firearms, and four years for possession of cocaine. His sentence started in March 2013, but in July the same year his status was set to house arrest. Although he spent some time in rehab, it has apparently had little effect on Jimmy.
