Jim Steinman Wiki Biography

James Richard “Jim” Steinman was born on the 1st November 1947, in New York City, USA, and is a Grammy Award-winning producer, composer, and lyricist, best known for his collaboration with such musicians as Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler, and Barbra Streisand, among others. Steinman’s career started in 1969.

Have you ever wondered how rich Jim Steinman is, as of late 2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Jim Steinman’s net worth is as high as $10 million, earned through his successful career as a music producer. In addition to being responsible for numerous hits, Steinman has also worked as a pianist, singer, and arranger, which has improved his wealth.

Jim Steinman grew up in New York where he went to the George W. Hewlett High School and later studied at the Amherst College, from where he graduated with bachelor’s degree in 1969. While at college, Steinman made music for the College’s adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s “A Man’s a Man”, and also directed their production of Michael McClure’s “The Beard”. In his final year at Amherst, Steinman wrote the book, music and lyrics for “The Dream Engine” (1969).

After his graduation in 1969, Steinman continued to work in musical theatres, and in 1971 he provided music for the puppet show “Ubu”, and the next year he wrote the music for Barry Keating’s musical “Rhinegold”, based on Richard Wagner’s opera “Das Rheingold”. Steinman’s first commercially released song was “Happy Ending”, which appeared on Yvonne Elliman’s album called “Food of Love” in 1973.The same year Jim wrote the music and lyrics for the musical “More Than You Deserve”, which later found a place on Meat Loaf’s album “Dead Ringer” in 1981.

In 1975, Steinman made music for Thomas Babe’s “Kid Champion”, starring Christopher Walken, and in 1977, wrote all seven tracks for Meat Loaf’s album entitled “Bat Out of Hell”. The album achieved multiple platinum status in the US and the UK, and sold over 40 million copies worldwide. It peaked at No. 14 on the US Billboard 200 and No. 9 on UK Albums chart. The success of the release helped Steinman to increase his net worth significantly.

In 1981, Steinman again wrote all songs on Meat Loaf’s “Dead Ringer” album, which reached No. 45 on the US Billboard 200 and topped the UK Albums chart. In the same year, Jim released his only solo album called “Bad for Good”, with the Canadian singer Rory Dodd contributing with lead vocals after Meat Loaf’s vocal problems at the time prevented him from singing. The release was a major commercial success and added more money to Steinman’s bank account. In 1983, Steinman produced Bonnie Tyler’s album “Faster Than the Speed of Night”, and wrote two singles including the most influential entitled “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. The album achieved platinum status in America, peaked at No. 4 position on the US Billboard 200 and topped the UK Albums chart, which only increased his net worth.

Steinman and Tyler teamed up again in 1986 for her sixth studio album called “Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire”. Although it wasn’t as successful as its predecessor, Steinman’s contribution on four out of eight songs didn’t go unnoticed. By the end of the ‘80s, Steinman had produced and written the majority of Pandora’s Box’s concept album entitled “Original Sin” (1989). He also wrote the music for the comedy “Rude Awakening” (1989), starring Cheech Marin, Eric Roberts, and Robert Carradine.

In 1993, Steinman and Meat Loaf worked again on “Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell”, 16 years after Loaf’s debut solo album “Bat Out of Hell”, which was successful in achieving 5x platinum in the US and 6x platinum in the UK; the album also topped both US Billboard 200 and UK Albums charts. In the ‘90s and 2000s, Steinman collaborated with many notable musicians such as The Sisters of Mercy, Celine Dion, Air Supply, Barry Manilow, Cher, and Def Leppard, among others. Most recently, he wrote all ten tracks on Meat Loaf’s latest album called “Braver Than We Are”, which was released in September 2016.

Regarding his personal life, Jim Steinman most intimate details such as marital status are unknown, as he successfully manages to keep them out of the public eye. In 2004, he suffered from serious cardiac problems, but since then he has been in good health.
