Jessica Lange Wiki Biography
Jessica Phyllis Lange was born on the 20th April 1949, in Cloquet, Minnesota USA, of German and Dutch (father) and Finnish (mother) descent. She is a versatile actress on stage and film, the winner of five Golden Globe Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, three Dorian Awards, two Academy Awards and many others. Jessica Lange is regarded to be one of the best actors of her generation. Of course, acting is the main source of her net worth which has been accumulated since 1976.
How rich is this actress? Reportedly, the net worth of Jessica Lange is as much as $15 million, put together during a career spanning more than 40 years.
To begin with, she grew up in various places as Lange’s father was a travelling salesman, so the family moved from place to place quite often. She was educated at Cloquet High School, and then majored in photography and art at the University of Minnesota. It was the producer Dino De Laurentiis who has discovered Jessica, while she was working as a model in the modelling agency Wilhelmina. As an actress she debuted in the monster thriller film “King King” (1976) directed by John Guillermin. In 1982, Lange became the first actress (in the period of 40 years) who was nominated for two Academy Awards in the same year. She won an Oscar in the category of the Best Supporting Actress for her role in the comedy drama film “Tootsie” (1982) directed by Sydney Pollack and was nominated for another Oscar as the Best Actress for her lead role in the biographical film “Frances” (1982) directed by Graeme Clifford. Other notable roles for which Lange was nominated for include three more Academy Awards from “Country” (1984) directed by Richard Pearce, “Sweet Dreams” (1985) directed by Karel Reisz and “Music Box” (1989) directed by Costa-Gavras. In 1994, Jessica Lange won the Academy Award in the category of the Best Actress for her role in the film “Blue Sky” (1994) directed by Tony Richardson. In 2009, she won her first Emmy Award in the category of the Best Mini series or movie actress for her role in the television film “Grey Gardens” (2009) directed by Michael Sucsy. The legendary actress is also known for her passion – photography. She has been interested in this hobby since the time of her studies at the University of Minnesota. As well as a number public art exhibitions held in USA, Mexico and European countries, Lange has released two photo books: “50 Photographs” (2008) and “In Mexico” (2010), and she also released the children’s picture book “It’s About a Little Bird” (2013). Jessica Lange Quotes
- Coming out of the ’60s, when it was still the last gasp of bohemia, I just never thought in terms of career or profession.
- For me, acting was always a way to explore emotions – to dip into the well and really try to reach rock bottom down there.
- [on what counts in her career] Box office success has never meant anything. I couldn’t get a film made if I paid for it myself. So I’m not ‘box office’ and never have been, and that’s never entered into my kind of mind set. It is the kind of acknowledgment by other actors, really. That’s really what is most meaningful.
- All through life, I’ve harbored anger rather than expressed it at the moment. Once I started on Frances (1982), I discovered it was literally a bottomless well. It devastated me to maintain that for eighteen weeks, to be immersed in this state of rage for twelve to eighteen hours a day. It spilled all over, into other areas of my life. I was really hell to be around.
- It took Sydney Pollack a long time to get me to do Tootsie (1982). I asked myself if I wanted to play some frothy, ditzy character after I had just done Frances (1982). Obviously, I’m thrilled that I did.
