Jerry Seinfeld Wiki Biography
American actor, comedian, television and film producer, screenwriter, as well as a voice actor, Jerry Seinfeld was born on 29 April 1954, in Brooklyn, New York City, of part Syrian-Jewish descent through his mother. Jerry is most famously known as the main star and co-writer of the long-running sitcom “Seinfeld”, which began airing in 1989. The show starring Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander is considered to be not only a cultural phenomenon, but was also a huge commercial success. The show aired for nine seasons and a total of 180 episodes, some of which were featured on the “100 Greatest Episodes of All Time” list, while the episode called “The Contest” even hit #1 on the list.
So just how rich is Jerry Seinfeld, as of mid-2017? Jerry’s net worth is currently estimated by authoritative sources to be over $900 million, the majority coming from his acting career. However, significant contributions include $10 million for appearing in the Microsoft advertisements with Bill Gates in 2008, while in 2013 Seinfeld collected $27 million from the ticket sales alone during his 27 tour dates. The same year, Jerry Seinfeld’s total earnings were estimated to amount to $32 million. Seinfeld also has many valuable assets, including his Porsche 959 which cost $700,000.
Jerome Allen Seinfeld studied at Massapequa High School, however, it was in college where Seinfeld became interested in stand-up comedy. Upon graduating, Seinfeld began performing at various comedy clubs, most notable of which was “Catch a Rising Star”. Seinfeld’s stand-up performances led to his appearance in a show hosted by Rodney Dangerfield, and landed him a minor role in the sitcom called “Benson”. Following that, Seinfeld made a successful appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”, in which he not only impressed the host but the entire studio audience as well. Later, Seinfeld came out with a television series called “The Seinfeld Chronicles”, later renamed to “Seinfeld”, which brought him major commercial success and fame, helped by co-writers Larry Charles, Andy Robin, Charlie Rubin and Steve Koren among others. Listed at the #2 on the Best Written Series of All Time by Writers Guild of America, “Seinfeld” carries a remarkable legacy and influence in the television industry.
After the series ended, Jerry Seinfeld continued to appear on television screens, starring in such shows as “Saturday Night Live”, “30 Rock” and “Jeopardy”.
In addition to being a comedian and director, Jerry Seinfeld is a published author; in 1993, he released “Seinlanguage”, which enjoyed critical acclaim and even a spot on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Even though Jerry Seinfeld is mostly known for portraying a character in a hit series “Seinfeld”, he is also widely recognized as a stand-up comedian, and has been included in the 100 greatest comedians of all-time list compiled by Comedy Central.
In his personal life, Jerry Seinfeld has been married to Jessica since 1999, with whom he has three children.

Jerry Seinfeld Quotes
- It’s amazing that the amount of news that happens in the world every day always just exactly fits the newspaper.
- Now they show you how detergents take out bloodstains, a pretty violent image there. I think if you’ve got a T-shirt with a bloodstain all over it, maybe laundry isn’t your biggest problem. Maybe you should get rid of the body before you do the wash.
- The first birthday party you have and the last birthday party you have are actually quite similar. You just kind of sit there. You’re the least excited person at the party. You didn’t even really realize that there is a party. Both birthday parties’ people have to help you blow out the candles. It’s also the only two birthday parties where other people have to gather your friends together for you.
- What is a date really, but a job interview that lasts all night? The only difference is that in not many job interviews is there a chance you’ll wind up naked.
- They show you how to use the seatbelt, in case you haven’t been in a car since 1965. ‘Oh, you lift up on the buckle! Oh! I was trying to break the metal apart. I thought that’s how it works.’
- I don’t play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me, “Don’t go near colleges. They’re so PC.”. I’ll give you an example: My daughter’s 14. My wife says to her, “Well, you know, in the next couple of years, I think maybe you’re going to want to be hanging around the city more on the weekends, so you can see boys.”. You know what my daughter says? She says, “That’s sexist.”. “That’s prejudice.” They don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.
- Men don’t care what’s on TV. They only care what else is on TV.
- If life boils down to one thing, it’s movement. To live is to keep moving.
- I wanted to do an episode of my TV series which we never did where sitcom problems would crop up and then be very quickly resolved.
- Now they show you how detergents take out bloodstains – a pretty violent image there. I think if you’ve got a T-shirt with a bloodstain all over it, maybe laundry isn’t your biggest problem. Maybe you should get rid of the body before you do the wash.
- I prefer the old theaters because the audience is… trapped.
- I don’t like “great” restaurants. I don’t want to hear the specials. If they’re so special, put ’em on the menu. I don’t want any auditioning foods. When they make the real show, then I will eat them.
- When you’ve been in the business 5-years, as a person, it’s like you’re 5-years old – like a child. 10-years and you’re 10-years old, 20… Etcetera. That’s how I measure maturity in this industry.
- You can be passionate about anything. Pay attention, don’t let life go by you. Fall in love with the back of your cereal box.
- [on whether family life produces better comedy than bachelorhood ]The truth is, the family is much more creatively nourishing because you’re playing on a full keyboard. Whereas when you’re single, you’re just playing the upbeat jazzy tunes.
- [about pregnancy and babies] It’s like getting ready for your own birth. Nothing prepares you . . . When those eyes meet your eyes — I was feeling things I never had feelings like before. I never loved anyone so much at first meeting. I love her so much! But! – Let’s make no mistake why these babies come here: to replace us. Their first words are “Mama”, “Dada” and “Bye-bye”. We’ll see who’s wearing the diapers when this is all over.
- A recent survey stated that the average person’s greatest fear is having to give a speech in public. Somehow this ranked even higher than death which was third on the list. So, you’re telling me that at a funeral, most people would rather be the guy in the coffin than have to stand up and give a eulogy.
Jerry Seinfeld Important Facts
- $225,000,000 (from sale of syndication rights to the show)
- Stated in an interview that one of the highlights of his career was when he had a two-hour conversation with President Bill Clinton in the White House kitchen.
- He is left-handed.

- Has practiced meditation for 37 years, as he stated in 2013 in a promotional tape appearing on the website of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace.
- Growing up watching and loving Bud Abbott and Lou Costello on TV, He says he still reveres the comedy duo for their perfection and the “musical math” evident in the comic timing of their iconic ‘Who’s On First?’ routine. In tribute, Seinfeld appeared in an MLB Network special about the routine in July 2012. Also, as he told the NY Times, his brief comedy stand-up that used to open early episodes of Seinfeld (1989) was an homage to the comedians, as was his own playing the Abbott-like straight man to the other characters in the sitcom, as well as building on the physical contrast between Kramer’s tall leanness and Newman’s short chubbiness. Even more, character George Costanza’s middle name, Louis, was yet another tribute to Costello’s memory.
- Lives in Manhattan’s renowned Beresford apartment building, northwest corner of 81st St. and Central Park West, just down the street from the address of “129 W. 81st” where sitcom Jerry lived.

- Announced his engagement to Jessica Sklar (born Nina Sklar on September 12, 1971 in Oyster Bay, New York). They began dating after they met at the Reebok Sport Club in 1998, even though she had just married Eric Nederlander, a scion of the Broadway theater-owning family. At one point, it was reported that Nederlander planned to sue Seinfeld for “alienation of affection” for contributing to the demise of his marriage. No legal action materialized. (10 November 1999)
